Welcome to Rage3D's Folding@Home team! Folding@Home (F@H) is a program designed by Stanford that uses your otherwise wasted idle CPU cycles to help scientists understand the mysteries of protein folding. More information about this fascinating science can be found at the official Folding@Home site, but luckily, you don't need to know anything to run the program and help humanity. By simply installing a program on your computer, you join Rage3D and thousands of others in the search to cure diseases like Alzheimer's and some types of cancer, all with virtually zero impact on your computer's performance. Besides that, it's also a lot of fun to compete against other teams and individually amongst the members of our team.

There really isn't any excuse for you not to fold, so let's get going.

Team Rage3D - Team 64

The first step is to download the Folding@Home client:
http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html

Builds are available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.
  • Graphical Client
The Graphical Client (GUI) is a good choice for first time users who want to get up and Folding quickly and easily. The GUI client uses a standard Windows installer, making it very easy to install configure. Once the installation is complete, it places a Folding icon in your taskbar, making it easy to stop/start the client, make changes, or check your current status.

  • Text Console
For the advanced user, the command-prompt version of the console will be more desirable. While the initial install can be a little tricky, it is well worth the effort. To use this version, just create a F@H folder and download the executable to that directory. The first time you run it, it will ask you to configure it. Set it up with your username and set the team number to "64". If you need to change your configuration later, use the '-configonly' switch. A list of other useful switches can be found on Stanford's site.

  • Screensaver-Only Console

In general, we do not recommend this version, but if you desire to run it, installation is similar to the graphical console.

Believe it or not, that's it! You're now contributing to what could be one of the most valuable scientific projects in existence. After you complete your first work unit (usually after 100 frames), you'll be ready to start watching for yourself in the stats.

And remember to set up as many computers as you can. Tell all your friends; every little bit helps. You can put them all under your name and Team 64 and watch as your name shoots up the team rankings. I'll see you at the top, kid.

Good luck and fold on!
