Lost Dragon

Can you guys please comment on the Radeon's image quality for 2D at resolutions of 1024x768 and above?

Is it sharp? Are the colors nice and saturated? Or is it blurry and washed out?

Please state what kind of monitor to you have, because that does make a difference.

If you could compare the 2D quality of the Radeon to that of a GeForce 2 GTS that'd be very handy..

I do quite a bit of work in various paint programs, and I do a bunch of word processing. Blurry text and lousy color is something I don't want to deal with.

Mainly I ask this because I keep hearing reports of the GTS' lousy 2D quality at higher resolutions.

I've had an Asus v6800 Deluxe Geforce DDR, 3D Prophet 64MB and now I have the ATI Radeon 64MB. The 2D image quality is amazing on the ATI Radeon 64MB Retail and better than any geforce card. I also have the Sony G400 which helps, but I think that on any average monitor it would look amazing. This card will only get better as time goes by. When the drivers get better and directX 8 comes out this card should be one of the best cards out there.

I have said many times the 2D rivals the G400Max which is unanimously known in the industry as the best 2D card you can buy. ATI did a kick ass job on the 2D and 3D on this card, Let's just hope they can continue to improve on it's speed through drivers revisions.

@cpld005:

Did you see the 2D performance of a 400MAX and a RADEON yourself?

I've got the Retail 64MB Radeon and a Sony CPD-G400. It's a great combo. Had a V3/3000 before and the Radeon is better looking in 2D and much better looking in 3D. I'm still having problems with the Radeon under Win2K but hopefully those issues will be fixed with the next driver release.

I have both cards running on identical machines down to Ram they both run and there is no discernable differnce in 2D between the MAX and the Radeon at 1600X1200 85Hz. Both are excellent.

The "Sony CPD-G400" ??!!!

OMG!

The visuals must look like pure reality to you!
That monitor is like $1,000+
How much?

Wonder if you have a Geforce card with you to test its 2d as well. Wonder how is it like. Heard that the 2d sucks on a geforce.

I did try a Hercules GForce 2 GTS on my roommates machine who's computer is pretty much the same except he's running 512MB ram (photoshop junkie) and i'm only using 256MB and he hates the 2D on it. He's trading me for my G400MAX and then i'll sell the GForce card as I hate them too for 2D work and buy another 32MB Radeon as it's all I really need for the second computer. I've used pretty much evey card out there Gforce 2, Voodoo 5 5500, Savage2000, G400MAX and now the Radeon which is the only card of all of them I have tried that I am truely happy with. The GForce is fine if your only a gamer but when you sit in front of your machine all day at work doing netowrk support and all night at home doing web pages the Gforce just hurts period. This isn't any type of bash this is my personal experience.

I'm really interested in checking this card out - I've owned my share of video cards and I have to say that the GeForce cards are the poorest for 2D - however 3D rocks. I have a V5 5500 now and it is really great in 2D - but need to experience the Radeon.
