A-I-W x800 XL PCI-E - 15 Channels appear in B&W and are all static need help

EDIT: What I'd like is someone that has the X800 XL PCI-E to comment on what of the NON- MMC 9.13 - 9.16 versions and Catalyst drivers work? It seems to me that since it's a newer card than the X800 it has to have a Version of Catalyst that recognizes it with drivers. I don't have the original CD nor can I find the Catalyst version / MMC listed to have come with it. I have been unable to get anything other than T200 Unified drivers to work with the card... even after manipulating the installation that so far has only lead to a "failure to start tv". I can very much "LIVE" with T200 drivers as long as I can find something MMC 9.09 or lower that operates correctly with it (meaning I get all the channels without static and without 15 or so of them being in black and white.
I dont' use a cable box to change channels otherwise I could just keep it on CH 3 ...but anyway. If I could also find a nice combination that worked with MCE 2005 with the card I guess I could live with that ....it didnt' go well with MCE 2005 SP3 but I'll try the Catalyst 9.3 with MMC 9.16 drivers in MCE 2005 using MC.

ATI All-In-Wonder x800XL PCI-E

I have been trying to find a working combination of Catalyst and MMC in various Operating Systems. I've run into some odd problems with XP MCE SP3 and all of the following MCE 2005, CMC, and MMC 9.16. I'm getting green horizontal lines (random painted on the screen) and static. Sometimes it will stop or "clear up by stopping and restarting an application. But it's present in different ways, in all three programs; the static alone is enough to make it impossible to watch/listen to.

I've I wasnt' sure if the card maybe bad or if maybe SP3 affected anything besides the Powertoy for MCE; so I made a couple more partitions and started playing with Windows XP SP2 and various copies of Catalyst and MMC.

I also have several other AIW cards among them X800 XT which installs and runs on the NSP WDM drivers just fine (I have it running Catalyst 5.13 and MMC 9.08 without issues).

However the X800 XL won't seem to install anything but the T200 Drivers
I tried Catalyst 5.7 with MMC 9.09 (from disk 180-v01107-100)
which I thought surely would be old enough to install NSP but it didn't, it installed T200.
I uninstalled everything and went to the folder where it unfolds the installation files C:\ATI\Support to the WDM folder but can't figure out how to make it just install the NSP driver? I did delete the T200 folder and then ran the set up for WDM thinking it would have to install the NSP drivers but it didn't it flashed something on the screen and when I rebooted there was a Yellow ! mark after T200 Drivers.

I've tried installing the drivers from the AIW x800XT disk (180-V01095-100)Catalyst 5.1 / MMC 9.03 didn't have success with that; it used NSP drivers of course b/c there are no T200 drivers, but on the reboot all the NSP WDM drivers were yellow ! in Device manager. I was able to point it to the WDM file it needed on the CD, all except when I got to the TV Tuner. It failed to install that driver giving a can't run error Code 13 or 10 can't remember for sure. I tried several times to un-install and redetect it but never could get the driver to correct the error. I even tried to point it after a few attempts to the .sys file on the Cat 5.7 MMC9.09 CD but same result it refused to be fixed.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I also did a manual install from downloaded files saved long ago from their website of Catalyst 6.2 with MMC 9.09 (It just went and installed the T200 WDM Driver).
RESULTS: Channels 2-35 are pretty decent near Ch 40 there starts being some static coming out, and it increases the higher up the channels I go so by Ch.50 its uncomfortable to watch/hear (the picture is pretty clear just static)...PLUS CH.'s 60, 61, 63-74 come in but ONLY in Black and White and 100% static no other sound. Ch 62 comes in color, but has the same loud static as the Ch.'s 59 and channels before.

Catalyst 5.7/MMC9.09
I get the same results as with 6.2/MMC 9.09 (same channels B&W/Static when I let the ATI Disk 180-v01107-100) and let it install everything (eventhough it's Catalyst 5.7 it automatically installs T200 WDM drivers. I'm starting to think this is mandatory with the AIW x800 XL PCI-E. I have no problem with the AIW X800XT installing / running with the WDM NSP drivers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another part of the problem is that until you install the WDM drivers, Windows doesn't "SEE" the TV Tuner part of the X800XL. This is very different than what happens for me with the AIW X800 XT, AIW X9800Pro, AIW 9600XT which are all AGP (maybe that has something to do with it maybe not)...but the ATI All-In-Wonder X800XL (I believe came out a far bit later than the AGP x800 XT so they change things?
In the past with the AGP versions, after installing the AIW cards the Device Manager would show the relevant sound/TV tuner drivers in the Yellow ! Action state waiting for the drivers to be installed.
So Until WDM drivers are installed Windows doesn't seem to see my card's TV Tuner. I need to check and verify this one more time b/c I missed that in my notes....But i'm pretty sure that even after everything is cleaned out, running add hardware doesn't detect the TV Tuner or missing tuner drivers. I did try un-successfully to un-install/remove the T200 driver and replace them with the NSP drivers but I'm not sure I did that right either or that it can be done on this card.
EDIT: Just tried Catalyst 5.13 and MMC 9.06.1 and the TV tuner failed to start; the PC Compatibility check passed 100%, of course.
I began a full barrage of installs starting from a clean install of XP SP2. I started with Catalyst 5.5 and worked up the ladder. Interestingly enough I found that SOME of the version of various Catalyst drivers that arrived on installer CD's contained all three WDM drivers. While Most of the copies I downloaded through out time up until Catalyst 5.12 did not ...containing only NSP_WDM & SP_WDM while curiously enough the .ini files all clearly listed AV...T200 in them.
OH well, then I had another thought. My built in Realtek audio drivers are listed as HD, which I took to mean Digital... ego was that why, even back in Catalyst 5.7 off the CD (I was only getting T200 to install)? So I rolled back to before I ever installed the Realtek drivers (just had a PCI unknown device in Device Manager) but that unfortuantely didn't make a difference.
I did pick up a surplus Dell GX280 (one bulging capacitor - but it's the mid full size case so maybe less likely to overheat the bad caps...) i'm going to give the card a try in that system as it doesn't appear to digital from what I can tell. Maybe the NSP drivers will install once in an analog sound environment????
Could never get anything below MMC 9.09 to work. Seems MMC 9.09 might have been partially compatible with T200 Drivers around 5.13 but it never fully worked right. I'D LOVE TO FIND & TEST MMC 9.10....
I went modern (again) Catalyst 9.3 and MMC 9.16.... disabled via registry to get it to show picture most times. There are three audio settings in the right click menu...2 of 3 are set to stereo, the third is not. When I set it to stereo, the mmc can hang, crash, not start, re=enables TV on Demand. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! I have pictures all the way up to Ch 74 as I should. Randomly some have a bit of static, would be painful to listen for too long.
Going to try MCE 2005 SP2 this time instead of three. See if it will work any better. I had one or two instances of grn horizontal lines but they stopped on MMC restart not like b4 with MCE 2005 SP3.
Yes, but the problem is that the card doesn't appear to work close to 100% with the drivers that they shipped with the card. It came with MMC 9.09 and MMC 9.09 doesn't tune in correctly all the channels (at least not when forced to install T200 drivers). So while I could shell out $20+ for the CD (it won't actually change anything)...at least as far as my research and trial & error confirms => full functionality ie. getting all the stations tuned in w/o static does not occur until you step up into the MMC 9.13-9.16 range and at that point I might as well just use MCE 2005 b/c it's an improvement (however I like the older MMC for creating smaller file sizes allows pausing for on the spot editing...). Yes I can disable the TV on demand "feature" in MMC 9.13+ but it re-enables itself on several settings changes or ever single time i have to switch back from a different input, no pause button, and it's BUGGY besides, it's not dependable sometimes TV on Demand has reenabled and I can't get the TV picture to appear. I end up spending 5-10 miinutes editing and restarting sometimes several times, switching inputs a couple of times to get it just to work...it's garbage AFAIK.
I am actually not having fun doing this, i'm ticked off all over again. I wasted a lot of time and have gotten my other (AGP) setups to work smoothly, and know my way around the AIW hell but this has me back feeling stupid again!
I need to throw the card into that dell system fast (the one w/o the digital audio) and see if I can get it to install WDM_NSP drivers. (B/c the T200 drivers which it forces me to install / manually or automatically simply do not function better than 75% with MMC 9.09.
I've had AIW cards all the way back to an 8500DV and never ran across this problem. Other problems, yes a ton af them, but not MMC partial functionality.
Bringing up a subject near and dear to our hearts, which version of Microsoft dotNET have you installed? My 9800 Pro came with Cat 6-12 and MMC 9.061. It also installed dotNET v1.1. After a reformat I could put dotNET 2.0 on and install the latest Cat's and MMC. BUT, it would lock up and crash routinely. Installing dotNET 1.1 fixed the problems. (for the most part)
Anyway, might be an area to explore.
Good luck.
Yeah, its the only time I have ever experienced anything like it. I got confirmation just a few days back on another thread on this Site that the AIW X800XL PCI-E requires T200 Drivers and that it won't operate on MMC 9.08...needing to bump up to MMC 9.13 or newer.
I'm not 100% sure yet which version of MMC it shipped with, but it seems the basterdized MMC 9.09 wasn't really the intended MMC version for it, which partily describes why it only partially works.
I've read a scant few other reviewers with X1800 and ? cards that described a similar occurrance. It's likely due to the cards not being fully supported in MMC 9.09 or below.
