? Audio Plugs on Remote Wonder II Receiver

Hi,

I just spent the past—holy crap!—two hours searching the forums and getting sidetracked looking for a post on this but could find none whatsoever.

Does anyone know what those two little holes on the side of the Remote Wonder II receiver base are for? I tried plugging an audio cable into them and they fit perfectly complete with a snap. They are not labeled and do not seem to be referenced in the manuals and like I said are not mentioned anywhere in the forum.

What the heck are they? Has anyone ever even noticed them?

Anybody?

Can someone who has a Remote Wonder II please check their base to see if it's got the plugs in question? It should be on the left (antenna) side.

I have no idea what they are for.

I also assumed it was for audio but I don't use speakers anymore so haven't tried it out.

Bump. I'd like to know too. I figured they would be for some IR Blaster or something but I can't find anything on this. I'm about to just take it apart and look, but I'd rather not.

I always thought they were for some sort of IR Blaster... but i've never actually seen them used before.

They could be for anything, 1/8" plugs are used for lots of things (like the previous posts indicate). Isn't there anyone from ATI around? Maybe I just need to ask in a different—less appropriate—forum section, few people seem to frequent this one.

It is without question a port that was intended to be used with an IR blaster and similar devices. However, there is no driver support for this feature and there likely never will be such support provided by ATI.

This effectively kills the whole entire concept and functionality.

However, from time to time ATI has been known to contradict itself and go against it initial and even secondary decisions.

For example:

The Theater 550 Pro was billed in such a way as to indicate that it would have MMC support. In fact, screen shots of MMC where used in demonstrations that showed the abilities of the chip. Manuals where printed by ATI partners (not ATI itself) promising MMC support in version 9.04. Then ATI decided not to support the T550P in MMC and made official statements to the fact although MMC 9.03 and MMC 9.04 would detect and install on T550P systems (and in part work). Now, ATI is billing T550P support in MMC 9.10 and MMC 9.09 is know to support the T550P.

It’s a little schizophrenic to be sure but true nonetheless.

The newer Remote Wonder Plus has no such ports and it appears as thought the idea has been abandoned altogether. The Remote Wonder II has or had much more potential IMO then the new Remote Wonder Plus.

You don’t see RF as being somewhat limited?

How would you control an IR controlled cable box or satellite box with an RF remote? There may be other ways but the most elegant solution would be a hybridized remote.

ATI had something great but they didn’t follow up and the Remote Wonder Plus is a step backward.

But the Remote Wonder is not for a cable box or satellite box, it's for a PC. The connector is on the reciever and an IR Blaster has it's own reciever right?, so what exactly would this accomplish? What advantage would it have over separate recievers for each remote?

I’m not sure where the confusion is here.

The Remote Wonder II has the underlying physical workings to control other device (in addition to the PC through the USB receiver). Such devices could have been RF based as well as IR based.

I have two MCE remotes and they have mini plugs for IR blasters (x2) right on the back of the USB receiver in exactly the same way the RWII does on the side. IR blasters do not need to have their own receivers if the remote device was designed to implement such support. This is the case with all MCE remotes and seemingly the RWII.

There was an informative thread that covered all this in this forum but I don’t see it now. If I can dig it up I’ll link you to it.

Meh. I was only curious because they looked like audio plugs. I don't understand because I have never had anything to do with IR remotes (despite my best efforts.) I suppose that if they have dropped the idea, then it is a moot point.
