Conflicted about the PS5

There were so many good exclusives with the PS4. Many show up on PC 2 - 4 years later. So, it's up to you how long you mind waiting. When I got the PS4 I found better quality games overall as compared to PC over the last years of that console. PS5 hasn't hit the same stride yet. But, I am confident it will. Right now I would love to own a PS5. If only I could. It's been near impossible to get one without paying a scalper. (something I want to avoid).

The PS4 (and PS5) exclusives list is not at all impressive to me. Of course its just my opinion and game preferences, but outside of the couple games I mentioned there isn't much there I find interesting.

Also, there's the big issue of performance on consoles, and lack of ability to adjust settings to tailor performance to my liking. For example the big one for me is always framerate. So many games are still 30 fps which I am extremely sensitive to and makes it tough to play for more than a few minutes. I just don't understand why consoles have to still put the emphasis on visuals rather than smooth framerate.

I would gladly dial back the visuals and/or resolution in games like Bloodborne if it could achieve 60 fps. Not sure why they refuse to give this at least as an option in all current console games. The systems are pretty much PCs at this point so I don't see why they couldn't do it. I do understand some games like Bloodborne are balanced for timing at 30 fps, and would experience some game breaking issues at higher framerates. But I can't believe with just a little added effort in development these issues could not be ironed out. Apparently they just don't view smooth gameplay as a priority, which is a shame.

Most games I have on the 5 do have a switch to set either frame rate or visuals. Thing is, choosing frame rate does not result in a huge loss of IQ. Any of the more critically praised titles that haven’t gotten a PS5 update ought to be hounded by Sony until they do. From soft for one is notorious for just dropping a game after a certain period of time, or number of patches. That just sucks, primarily because of games like Bloodborne.

Yeah my understanding is its usually simply just dropping rendering resolution, for example from 1080 to 720, and that frees up processing resources to allow the game to run in the higher fps.

How hard can that be to patch in? Of course I'm no game software developer and I'm sure there's other issues that could be involved. I have seen games that break when you move to higher framerate, but surely with a little work they could do it.

Eh, just venting my frustrations. I am sad to say I have had to put Bloodborne on the back burner due to my worsening sensitivity to the low framerate. I still really want to play it, but I literally feel physically ill after 20-30 minutes. Its god damn awful.

That’s frustrating as hell dude, sorry to hear it’s getting that bad. :(

I don’t believe people ought to let developers off the hook for ignoring what ought to be a simple fix and that’s always been a source of annoyance with fromsoft for me.

A modder uncapped DaS1 with little to no issues. I refuse to believe they can’t with Bloodborne. Other devs released free PS5 upgrades (Nioh 2 52Gb worth!) almost immediately ….so I’d love to see FS get pressured into doing something with BB. Geesh

Yeah its super frustrating when a game dev I otherwise love has to do something to piss me off. But hey, they are a business after all and their bottom line is the top priority. I'm sure they weighed the pros/cons and decided it wasn't worth it for them. The game was super successful as is, and I'm sure my complaints are in a small minority so who cares right?

As for me, I don't know what the hell is going on. Not as bad as games at 30 fps, but I have also been starting to have some trouble playing games with higher framerates unless I can set the FOV higher. Like it has to be at least above 105 and even then its still not guaranteed to alleviate it. I might have some other issue going on, like a worsening eye sight problem or ear infection that's throwing off my equilibrium. I have been sick with this weird cold for over a month now. I already saw my doctor couple weeks ago (telemedicine) but I think I need to follow up to discuss this.

Is your doctor referring you to an ENT? Your symptoms sound very similar to what my wife deals with. She was diagnosed with a Chronic middle ear infection. They do not go away, and her's required surgery as it became set in the bone.

I really hope that's not the issue, seriously...hers was rough on her.

Nope. When I spoke to him over video call I gave him my symptoms which boiled down to a post nasal drip diagnosis. He suggested treating it with nasal spray, which has helped the symptoms of that. But I still feel nauseous/dizzy a lot, and overall lousy.

I am going to follow up with him and try to get an in person visit this time so he can examine my ears. Last appointment had to be telemedicine because they said since I had a constant cough they didn't want me coming in.

Ughh, I can tell this is going to be a long road to getting this sorted. Sucks. I just want to play video games without feeling ill!

I would ask for the ENT, precautionary if nothing else. Your symptoms are too close to what she dealt with.

Absolute best of luck man, the sooner it's sorted the better.

Yeah my wife also told me I probably need to see an ENT to properly diagnose.

Thanks for the concern and advice, and sorry for the thread derail.

Bought the game for PS4 since it came out and never played it once on my PS4 Pro. :bleh:
