Data Recovery on Samsung A5

G'day,

I'm in need of knowing how to recover a bunch of deleted photos from my mrs Samsung A5 phone which my oldest daughter decided to do for shits and giggles. I'm no expert with Samsung but from what I can tell, deleted data, i.e photos are permanently deleted on first go?

Anyway, how can I recover these photos? I assume there are some recovery apps?

I don't believe cloud was activated, I could be wrong which will make this thread redundant.

Cheers

I would try DiskDigger photo recovery on the play store. I really hope you are rooted, otherwise you will most likely only get back low resolution cached thumbnails/previews.

If I’m not rooted, then I’ll definitely be rooted.

Thanks, I’ll try it out. Will let ya know how that goes.

Diskdigger retrieved those deleted photos. It basically orders photos by date so I had to go back to a certain point to find which photos they would have been but luckily the photos in question were over a certain time period (new born photos) so I could pick the ones I needed pretty easily.

Unfortunately, large thumbnails were the only image quality I could retrieve (or at least that's what I think I could retrieve). They are not very bad quality, just not the quality they were originally :(

There was mention about root.... I only had the option to be redirected to a link that explained about it, which I haven't quiet read yet. Maybe I'll find some answers in there.

I assume "root" is root access and if I didn't have that access I wouldn't be able to retrieve any photo at all? You did say that root would still retrieve the photos but they would be thumbnail quality.

EDIT: OK I read up a bit, it won't be rooted.

Thanks, + rep

Yeah, fortunately/unfortunately android locks apps out of functions that could recover data blocks that are marked as deleted unless you are rooted.

If you use google, I would at least load the google photos app(if not already installed), just to take advantage of the free online immediate photo backup. Amazon provides something similar as well. I use an app that automatically dumps photos to my home server via SSH2 or FTP depending on my current data connection.
