External links intercepted and rerouted - site, or local issue?

Anyone else seeing an issue where a you post an external link, and it takes you somewhere else? Seen this a few times randomly, and want to know if anyone else is seeing it. If its a site issue, I expect its an advertising issue.

Example of one I just clicked - I posted a link to an amazon microSDXC card, but clicking takes me to ebay. Its not 100% of the time. Sometimes clicking the amazon link takes me to amazon, but others it is rerouting to the ebay link. :confused:

How it works, as far as I know: You might have a hyperlink to a brand new Sony TV and if there is a person who sells it for less and has had paid Viglink, it will automatically redirect to that persons offer.

Ignoring things like whether that person is trustworthy in the first place. *shrug*

And on a site where we prohibit eBay links (at least in Deals forum). :lol:

Yep, just posted an amazon link that takes you to office depot. Would REALLY be frustrating if you were trying to direct people to a specific sale or deal at a specific website.
 
Yeah it's been random for me too; though it typically always changes links I make to Amazon and redirects them to the same product found on JC Penney or some other place
 
It has never happened to me; it's probably a north american thing. Sucks to be you ^_^
 
Yep, that's VigLink.

If you have Privacy Badger from EFF, ban cdn.viglink.com (the page embeds the code for it) and re-try your link. They pay some nominal fee to R3D for it, although I doubt it's very much so take that into account.
 
Yes, this happened to me when I used my phone where I posted my links that directly to Office Depot website. Except that when I used my PC and logged Rage3D. My links were directly to Amazon. But I think the one reason why is that I don't logged R3D on my phone....I'll try to log it in my phone and see if I see the same result or not.

EDIT: I just logged R3D on my phone and the links were straight to Amazon. Hmm....so if not logged. I'd see the wrong links? Hmm...yeah, viglink totally sucks.
