FCC finds cellular carriers Verizon, T-Mobile and US Cellular lied about coverage

Verizon, T-Mobile, and US Cellular exaggerated their 4G coverage in official filings to the Federal Communications Commission, an FCC investigation found. But FCC officials confirmed that Chairman Ajit Pai does not plan to punish the three carriers in any way. Instead, the FCC intends to issue an enforcement advisory to the broader industry, reminding carriers "of the penalties associated with filings that violate federal law."

Yep. Looks like I was 100% right. I've been telling US Cellular for 9+ years their coverage maps have been a lie. US Cellular even said.. "We told the FCC our maps would be overstated before we did them. We warned them."

NOT KIDDING. And the FCC still won't fine the little shits. This is regulatory capture pure and simple. Pisses me off to no end. Tired of not having LTE or 3G service yet US Cellular "claims" its available to the FCC so we can't get access to federal grants to bring in a provider to do it.

The FCC isn't for the people anymore, they are for Big Business.

Republicans literally appointed a Verizon lawyer to the FCC chairman position, to conduct oversight of companies like Verizon.
Yep it would be better to choose one that knows nothing about the wireless business at all so they would have no ties to the companies!!

I have a Note 10+ now. (non 5G model.. as we will never have 5G where we live in my lifetime.. lol)

I'll explain the transaction later and the deal etc...

Wait, you don't even have 3G service yet? I did not even realize that that was possible in 2020. If you don't mind my asking, where do you live?

Every time I visit the US, I am dismayed by how bad your cellular networks are. Reasonably major cities like Pittsburgh have poor signal, and what AT&T/Sprint call LTE (40-50 Mbps), we call 3G in Canada.

We pay through the nose for our networks though.

EDIT: this is simply pathetic: https://coverage.sprint.com/coverageDescVMU.html

Sitting in my house, in the middle of a suburb, I get 220+. If I were in Toronto, it would be a lot higher.

There. We can get 4G LTE service through Chariton Valley Wireless but at $60+/line.. its not affordable especially when 7 lines are involved and switching 7 lines with device installments on top of it.. just makes it impossible. Red = US Cellular Tower locations. Yellow= Chariton Valley.

Coverage map = US Cellular's view of signal strength in relation to "voice service" which is on their 1X RTT network still.

As for the deal... I've been ripping US Cellular a new asshole for over a year now. They've finally blocked me on most of their social media accounts (and I ain't being mean either.. I am just demanding they correct their coverage maps and tell the damn truth...) So they know full damn well their coverage here in town is **** and overstated. So their offer to me? $15/mo off the bill bringing the bill down to $42/mo. (They took $15/mo off the $36/mo installment plan over 30 months)...

We've been "marked" for a new tower since 2009 and it was approved in 2011 and all the FCC and Environmental certs done then just before construction was to begin in 2014.. US Cellular cancelled it without warning or telling anyone in the community or even their tech support. Their Tech Support was still under the impression it was still being built and lied to customers to convince them to stay with US Cellular. Ken Meyers is the big dog behind that one.

We have access to the following services...
1. Gigabit Fiber to the home (no data caps) (pricing varies on speed and cost to run the fiber cable to your house + equipment)
2. 25Mbps Wireless Fixed Internet (soon to be higher as the ISP is upgrading each site they have 2 per year.. Should bump speeds to 75-100Mbps down, 15Mbps up, no data caps)
3. 75Mbps Down, 20Mbps Up DSL (no data caps) for $74.99/mo (roughly $100/mo with all fees and such) <-- What I have.
4. 4G LTE through Chariton at $60 per line + fees and taxes and full retail pricing on devices. Not affordable for people around here with 4+ lines..
5. US Cellular claims 4G LTE but signal is too weak to get. They use the lower "B" 700Mhz band for 4G LTE and 850Mhz for 3G/1X and LTE. They are still using their 2002 3G antennas. No infrastructure improvements since 2005 here from US Cellular.

and yes, those are hay bales. We are out in rural USA. Mostly flat but some rolling hills. This tower is their shelbyville, MO tower. Placed in a low spot. So we can see the tower from my house but can't get service from it. lol. We are primarily serviced by the Newark, MO tower about 6.3 miles away.

https://specmap.sequence-omega.net/ <-- Fun little Spectrum ownership map. Eesh Dish owns a lot of 700Mhz nationwide.

Soooooo.... Got my hands on the Form 477 LTE map that uses the actual propagation model submitted to the FCC and did some walking... Basically anything within that red line with the red airbrush... = No outdoor 4G LTE 700Mhz or 850Mhz signal at all on a Note 10+. You also lose all signal driving through town along that highway in the summer. lol. Dropped call complaints happen frequently here.

The rest of the town you can get 700Mhz 4G LTE but its severely weak and frequently drops to 3G. Top speeds are 2.6Mbps Down usually on 4G and strangely enough.. 3G if you are at the Elm/1st Street intersection... you can get 2.1-2.4Mbps Down.. but yea.. I'm almost done compiling my case to present to the FCC on the lack of coverage here despite US Cellular filing sworn statements saying this whole town is 100% covered with 4G LTE and that they verified it.
