Getting back to folding need some help...

Seems like my points have gone way down since my last folding attempt.

I have a 6970 and a AMD Phenom 2 X6 1100T

What should I have for settings to maximize my point potential?!? Thanks.

i would definitely go with a smp+gpu hybrid (v7 client). at stock speeds you should expect around 18-20k ppd...

Unfortunately I don't get anywhere near those PPD totals with my almost identical set up. See my system specs. Any tips I may be missing?

My 6970 alone puts out an avg of 8600 ppd. Thats with as much cpu time as it can hog.

My 5870 + i7 860 stock (SMP 6) puts out about 16000 - 16500 ppd on avg.

Make sure when your running both together you give up at least 1 CPU core for the gpu client. So if you've got an i7 with hyper threading then SMP 7. If you've got an i5 without hyper then SMP 3.

For AMD chips I'm fairly certain they don't have anything like hyper threading, so SMP 3 is the order of the day for a quad core.

Personally on my work box i saw hardly any difference in PPD running SMP 6 + GPU vs SMP 7. This is probably because i have so much crap running in the background as it is for..... WORK!

both maliki's and your cpus are 6 core. if set for smp 5 + gpu, you should see ~ 7k ppd from the 6870 and ~10k ppd from the cpu. this is assuming that computer is a dedicated folder. ppd drops a little to a lot depending on what you're doing. my main folder varies between 32k and 1k ppd depending on what i'm doing.

Click "Configure" in the top left

Click "Slots" tab

Double click the SMP entry

In the section that says CPU it should currently be set to -1. Change that to 5 or any number you wish.

Click ok, then click save. I'd recommend pausing it then restarting it to make sure it releases the core.

Well all I can say is WOW! If these preliminary results are any indication then that small tweak has done wonders for my PPD.

You can see the major difference since I implemented the SMP5 with the GPU. The SMP is reporting about 12000PPD and the GPU is doing about 7400. I'll see if this continues. I may have just been getting lucky with the WU's lately.

Regardless I think we should have a sticky or something to tell people how to configure the V7 client.

Amazing what happens when the two aren't fighting for resources! ;)

I can't wait until we get better clients for our AMD cards. Once that happens things will really take off!

Nvidia clients/cores use CUDA, which is Nvidia's native tongue so to speak. It's a lot more mature (meaning they've had more time to work on it) so it requires very little CPU time. Nvidia people can run full SMP with little downside.

AMD uses openCL (they use to use something called brook but dropped it for openCL). So the AMD core isn't as mature as Nvidia's hence the performance difference. Stanford is working on it through, and it got much better with v7. We can only go up from here!

Hey thanks for the info. It makes sense.

That tweak has definitely improved my ppd massively. I just had my first 30000+ point day yesterday.
