Help me pick a 2 TB SATA SSD

Any recommendations for an "affordable" 2 TB SATA SSD? I'm on X79 and can't run NVMe SSDs (and don't want to do the add-in card thing if it's even possible). Currently have a 256 GB Crucial m4 for OS/programs and a 2 TB Western Digital Caviar Black for games/pictures/downloads/files/etc. Want to just put everything on a single drive to simplify everything and also have games on a SSD.

Did some quick research and it seems the 2 TB Crucial MX500 fits the bill. The 2 TB Samsung 870 QVO is pretty much the same price but according to what I read it should be "inferior" to the MX500 because it is QLC-based.

Any thoughts/recommendations?

I tend to stick with Samsung because their data transfer software is awesome and works every time.

Might want to look at the EVO. It's a bit pricier but worth it for the warranty.

Samsung's warranty is pretty good.

What is Samsung's software used for?

Edit: Briefly read about the software and it seems it is used for health monitoring, performance optimizing, etc.

You can benchmark drives, do diagnostic scans, performance optimizations, over provisioning, secure erase, firmware updates, and drive encryption.

I'm sure I'm missing some things.

It's really nice software.

Does the MX500 or the Samsung drives require any specific SATA AHCI drivers? I'm currently running the Windows 10 default SATA AHCI drivers.

It also gives a total written size on your drive. So that if you need a RMA you can easily find that information.

I think Windows automatically does the drivers in windows update.

Let me look.

Mine are Samsung drivers. Windows took care of it though.

And the data transfer to clone your drive is excellent.

I have Crucial and Samsung drives in my system. If I were buying today I would be pleased with either one.

Got both. Can’t tell the difference. MX500 is a solid pick. So is the 870 Evo.
Between the two I would buy MX500 today.
