Holidays or Bah Humbug?

I'm in the Bah Humbug group.
I like seeing *other* people decorate, but have no desire to do it myself.
I might be in the mood for the holidays the day of and the day before, but the rest of it? How many carols do we need to hear starting in September (or August). Why do we need to rush around and buy stuff when we all have more than enough shit filling our homes? Can't we just hang out, have a few drinks, and call it good?

I'm struggling to find time to get the outside lights up. We picked the tree up the weekend after Thanksgiving, but damn we have just been so busy with stuff.

By the time I get the lights up, it'll be New Years LOL

Everyone can make their holiday a perfect holiday (for them). It’s just a great time of the year to remember people you don’t always show appreciation to and treat yourself as well. Putting up a bunch of lights doesn’t automatically mean you have the holiday spirit. If its something you like to do then do it. Otherwise celebrate the way you want and have a great one!!! My kids are all grown now so these holiday go to me and my wife. We always just buy our own gifts and wait until Christmas to crack into them. One year I wrapped all mine and put them under the tree and told everyone else they had to guess what I got myself. It was a lot of fun and a great holiday time. I still like that once a year you can do a few special things for others and treat yourself too. It’s how we do it and it usually doesn’t require a bunch of lights setup or multiple trips to the mall. So, I consider that celebrating the holidays and NOT bah humbug. Who cares what the over-compensating neighbor down the street does. That’s their thing.

We recently moved into a new house, and I'm busy with tons of house-hold projects, so I'm not doing elaborate lights this year. I have one of those christmas laser star projectors, and that is beaming dots onto the house. Otherwise I don't plan to do any outdoor decorating.

Of course we have a tree in the living room, and the wife and kids have been decorating all over the rest of the interior of the house, but I'm not so involved in most of that.

to be honest i'm not feeling very "festive" right now, so no decorations so far. We will have a tree on christmas and some smaller decorations inside th house, but nothing wild. Also don't even get me started about the electrical bill this year ..........

Humbug. Like SubCog, in a new house and getting the old hose ready to sell.
Not even going to get my wife a holiday gift. New house should be enough.

My wife and I stopped buying each other gifts years ago. We're both very particular about what we want, and we've found that it's much more efficient for us to each buy our own gifts.

Honestly if there's something I want I usually find room in the budget to buy it during the year, and so Christmas gifts don't really do much for me. We still get gifts for the kids though.

Its just one of those things....gotta do it early enough otherwise just forget it.
Up here in Canadia.....it gets cold. Do i want to put up lights in the cold? no sir.

Somewhere in between?
Very much love Christmas, but this year has been so crazy it doesn't FEEL like Christmas. We also haven't been able to decorate as normal, because we've been building an addition which is incomplete...so have some lights up outside, have our tree, few other inside decorations, but not as full bore as we usually go.

Main issue is...just too busy to really appreciate and enjoy...

I love the season, but I hate everything retail and flashy surrounding it. Love the family time, hate trees and decorations. Love the food, hate the crazy busy. Love the sales, want to slap store elves and Santas. :bleh:

Just gimme family and friends, food and a warm house and I’m happy. Humbug to all the rest of the garbage.

I am like you but not my wife. She wants to put up as many lights/decorations as possible but i feel its a waste of money and then she gets upset with me when i tell her if she wants them up, she needs to do it herself. She has been so exited about the elf on the shelf thing, bought whole bunch of different accessories and make the effort every night to rearrange but she doesn't work so guess it keeps her busy and kids seems to be excited every morning.

Do it for the children!

Someone is actually going around and dropping these in homeowners mailboxes.

I'm lazy, so if it was up to me I'd probably just put up a fake lighted tree, hang a couple wreaths and whatnot, and call it good. My wife, however, is a Christmas decorating maniac. Our house looks like a Better Homes & Gardens Christmas edition cover.
