Humble Monthly is becoming Humble Choice

They're just giving everyone the classic plan it looks like. I got that email and wondered what the hell it was about since that's what I'm already getting.

i still have a hard time understanding who actually spends money on stuff like that monthly garbage. I mean...most of the time it's really ...bad...like rrrrreally.

I believe I have only 1 month left and I already removed my credit card so they can't surprise charge me for another year. It started out good for me and then went downhill very fast where I just kept pausing the month over and over.

I liked the ability to play games that I otherwise wouldn't look at twice, and found some that I really enjoyed.

After a year my backlog was at 80 games or something. After a 2nd year, 180. June, 2021 was my last month with the thing. No regerts. Or ragrets. Or however you want to misspell it.

Behold, the change brought to Humble Choice, that will bring you fewer games, but they will be of higher quality. :bleh:

Borderlands 3 - Less than three years after the hit sequel hit our digital storefronts, you can now collect it in your Humble Choice bundle!

Borderlands 3: Director's Cut - Back in the day, any DLC or add ons to your Choice games would be a "sub selection" within the claimed game. Now they're counting it as an additional item to make the bundle look bigger! They probably should have started with doing it this way.

Black Book - Two dimensional adventure-looking side scroller but maybe not because there's cards. Interesting visual style.

Per Aspera - It's not a misspelling of anti-persperant, it's a "let's clean up Mars and terraform it" strategy game where you are a bot with the task.

Just Die Already - From the creators of Goat Simulator, I guess they didn't want to name this Elderly Simulator. Chaotic sandbox/playground game. Looks to be in the same vein as Goat Sim but with actual endgame goals.

Before We Leave - A building simulator where you build civilizations on a basketball and then spread your civilization onto a new basketball.

Paradise Lost - A walking sim/chase simulator/adventure game set in a Nazi bunker.

Everhood - Pixel graphic dodging/jumping game. Maybe like Tempest but on a single plane and no shooting.

Calico - As thumbnails, the flesh-like colors used for the environments in this game made me think it was some other kind of game, but instead it's a coax hungry mammals into a cafe game. If you have a 7 - 9 year old daughter, she might really like it.

Looks like a good month for a change. Desperados 3, Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Man of Medan, etc.

Does anyone have a spare key for Hot Wheels Unleashed? I think it was part of Humble Choice in August 2022.

Humble Choice sent me an email last month giving me the chance to lock in this month's game rotation as well as next months! I did not partake. Regardless, here's this month's offerings:

Ghostwire: Tokyo - I once had a dream that I asked an AI Mainframe to create a game for me. I told it that it needed to be futuristic, colorful, and have a story that played out like a senseless dream. The game in my dream was called Spectrecable: Osaka. I have filed paperwork with my lawyer in preparation to take ownership for this IP before Epic Games offers it for free.

Remnant: From the Ashes - For those that didn't get it during either of the times it was offered for free on Epic, or didn't get it while it was on sale for $4 several times on Steam, you can now claim ownership of this highly rated 3rd person Souls-like shooter with a super cool haircut (or hat, if you look at the newer banners for the game). I guess I'm doing a disservice to the fact that this is for the Complete version, which gives access to the tepidly received DLCs.

Curse of the Dead Gods - Looks like a reasonably deep isometric action RPG, with heavy strategy influence. Hades art style, and watching the trailer it looks like your character does a lot of spinning with sharp objects, just like my kids.

Honey, I Joined a Cult - Title says you joined a cult but the game apparently puts you in charge of one. I think they could have done a lot better with that. Looks like a basic 2D micromanagement simulator with skins/item names based on cultish things. Maybe.

Eternal Threads - Would it be great to buy a set of clothes that last forever? Boy would it! Completely opposite of something called Death Stranding. You play the part of Scott Bakula except you don't actually take control of any character, going back in time and manipulating things so that the characters make different decisions and don't die. Probably very tedious without a walkthrough, and ungratifying with one.

Grime (non-deluxe, wtf): Colors of Rot - Now that's a title that gets me excited! Unfortunately it looks a basic, frustrating, dark and empty action platformer. There's a game that's not named Shadow of the Beast that it reminds me of, maybe also developed by Psygnosis, that was very empty, dark, and frustrating and I gave up on it very quickly when I was 15 so maybe I'm projecting a bit.

Turbo Golf Racing - Tired of traditional racers with their ... racing and their... driving and ... ? Well now you can race on a golf course and move a ball around like you're playing rocket league but on a golf course but with a race track on it.

Meeple Station - Very interestingly looks like an isometric Honey, I Joined a Cult, but in space and with spreadsheets.

There you have it. Hurry now, before this month's bundle expires in 28 days!

I missed July. Oh well. On to August!

Disco Elysium: Have you ever wanted to dance 70's style with the Rage3D member that left the site under strange, mysterious circumstances? Oh wait that was Elysian, and this game has nothing to do with disco dancing (as far as I can tell). Top-down isometric very deep, very well made role playing game with strong character building/choices matter branches. Too bad everyone already owns it. Pretty sure I got it for $9 a year or two ago. Might play it one day.

Chivalry II: Good looking melee/medieval FPS game where you might actually be able to find a server to play on. Multiplayer only, so not even a consideration for me. As of this moment, Steam says there are 1557 people playing.

Road 96 : Story based game where you hitchhike your way to "the border", meet unique NPCs and interact with them more or less as awkwardly as you do in real life. Hear their stories and use your attention span to make decisions as the game progresses. I was interested in this when it first came out, and it wouldn't surprise me if it's actually pretty good.

Trek to Yomi: "Cinematic" (read: black and white) (perfect game for badsykes; we need you back!) game where you 2D fight people with swords. Hopefully has a good story but they're not selling it very well on the store page.

Arcade Paradise : Strange game that looks like another money-grab where they make a game with a bunch of old arcade/console games and hope no one notices that emulators are a thing. Instead it appears to be originally developed old-style games in the spirit of those emulated games (take that, you cheats!) that you can play, and somehow that helps your arcade that you manage make more money...? According to Steam, it's similar to a game I've played Shower With Your Dad Simulator 2015.

Such ART : Interesting looking game where you manage an art studio but a big part of it is creating the art that you sell. 98% overall positive reviews, so there must be something special about it. Too bad it's not VR. Not that I have VR equipment, it just seems it would be a perfect game for it.

Tin Can : First person, you're trapped in space and need to eject via escape pod. Once you do, you need to learn how to use the escape pod's systems to get to safety. Game includes exciting things like reading manuals and trial/error puzzles. Seems another perfect VR title that is not.

Hot Brass : Top down steal/tactical game with simple graphics. After some investigation I'm shocked to learn it's not also a mobile game. I feel like there's a thousand games like this that are all better looking and better made.

So there you have it. The "main" two titles are just as fetching to me as the two main titles in previous months, but this time the following games seem like a much better mix than usual. A number of these titles are the types of titles that I signed up for Humble Monthly in the first place. Also, I find it ironic that a long time ago (I suppose around October 18, 2019) they changed from Humble Monthly to Humble Choice, and after a couple of years (or so) there is no longer choice. You get all 8 games every month.... I guess you still have the choice to pause, but that's not enough to warrant the name change IMO. :o Shower thoughts.

Yea I skipped this one

The scawwwy Octobuh Humble Choice is out. Whoooooohhhooooo ghost sound

The Quarry: I was hoping this would be a simulator where you could participate in auctions for federal land and eventually win a plot to dig and cut your own stone. Large dump trucks, excavators, dynamite... but unfortunately this is none of that. It purports to be multiple endings, choices matter, and all that. Probably more cutscene generator than game. Looks like it would be too stressful for me to play otherwise. Looking at the cast, it's pretty impressive.

Metal Hellsinger: FPS - I own this and I like it, though is not for everyone. Levels are same-y but the music slaps and it forces you to be accurate and rhythmic to succeed, just like making babies.

Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes: Narrative/Adventure game. Maybe some puzzles. Choices matter. It being part of Humble Choice seems like an extended demo. If you like it, there's 3 other Dark Pictures games that are equally good/bad waiting for your $30/ea.

Rebel Inc. Escalation: Appears to be a decent casual strategy game that I would never buy. Could work well on mobile devices. *looks on Google Play store*. It's free on Google Play. Well there's in-game purchases but I think I'm done researching this one to explain further pros/cons.

Spirit of the Island: Looks like a super generic farming sim, but on an island. There's also a tourism component, and one of the sales bullets is "hire tourists to work on your farm!". Doesn't seem feasible. Graphics could maybe pass for Nintendo 64 era. Would be a good game to gift to your kids if they've never played games before and have no standards. Or if they've played games before and you want to punish them.

Lords and Villeins: From the screenshots, appears to be another farming simulator but with Dwarf Fortress graphics. If not for the title, I'd stop there. Villeins. Ill Veins. What is that about.
After reading some more about it, I don't think I care. It's a city builder where you micromanage the people as well.

A Juggler's Tale: I think "A Juggalo's Tale" would be a much more interesting game but whatever. Okay so it's a platformer where you're controlling a string puppet but it's not by using a cross bar to control the puppet, but instead by using buttons and directional pads to cause your puppet to control the cross bar. Some nice artistic levels but seems like it's focused on narrative over gameplay.

Mr. Prepper: A claustrophobic looking game where you build bunkers and balance things in a way that looks like your base from XCOM, except instead of alien research rooms you're building rooms to help you survive. Also there's a large rocket inside your bunker that comes into play somehow. There's 2.5D outdoor missions that take place. Could be interesting.
