Mining Farm with 78 PNY GeForce RTX 3080s Spotted: Capable of Gen $128,088 Per Year

A mining farm has been spotted in the US with as many as 78 PNY GeForce RTX 3080 graphics cards. In a world where it’s hard to find a single gaming graphics card, this miner managed to buy nearly a hundred of them: One hundred of NVIDIA’s fastest GPUs for a single person, and that too not for gaming. Stings don’t it? But it’s completely legal so you can’t do anything about it.

It is legal for 78 people to smash the person over the head repeatedly with 78 old video cards? :bleh:

I wouldn't care if supply was high enough that it didn't matter. But with the way things currently are... seeing this sort of stuff just makes me want to quit being a PC gamer.

But ****, even nVidia them selves directly sold thousands of gamers cards to miners. All this **** really doesn't make being a PC gamer feel very awesome :(

He is missing a few spots though. Needs to complete the rig. With bitcoin as it is I am thinking many people will jump onto the mining ship again. I was thinking myself but not willing to put out a lot of heat out of a single measly 3080. Better to just buy coin and play in the market.

Can't see the issue, he's paid for them and using them as he sees fit.

It's the cretins that have bought them just to sell for massively inflated prices that make me sick.

At first I thought to myself; that's such a well grounded perspective to have.

But then I thought for 5 more seconds:
Q: Why are cretins able to sell for massively inflated prices?
A: Because douche-bags like this guy are single-handedly buying cards which could've served 100 gamers.

It's simple supply and demand.
Nothing wrong or illegal about it, but there you go...

I think the real fault lies with GPU manufacturers for not properly dealing with the demand for mining cards.
I am sure their R&D can cook up something like a Bitcoin Processing Unit that has zero rasterization capabilities and costs a fraction.

Companies never care who they sell anything to.
Just as long as they sell all stock at the top price they can get.

As you say, That's down to the manufacturers being way behind with production.

I'm sure they can, but why would they want to? If they can get more for cards that are over engineered for the purpose.

Don't get me wrong it burns inside, I'm after 2 card for my Son and myself. But at least these guys are buying them to use, not just to make a killing on re-selling.

I mean we have to be assuming things if we are to pretend how he bought them. If he bought all 78 PNY cards one by one, with bots no bots, I think we can assume pretty rightly, there is no shortage of Nvidia graphics cards in this virus and there probably never was, and everything is fake news.

EDIT: he still has not answered how he bought them

Nucking Futz. :yep:

And after he's finished with them, onto ebay where he scores most of his purchase price back.

The whole thing could be a bunch of malarkey? Pretty easy to photoshop things these days. However there could be a more devious enterprise occurring. Recently a subsidiary of msi was caught selling the rtx3080 on ebay for double the msrp. If others are following suit and scalping their own cards, it would easily explain the shortages.
