NotFred's diskless folding = awesomeness

I found an old AX2 TK-55 laptop, and figured I'd give it a second life :D Unfortunately its DVD drive was busted (along with the audio controller and battery), and while I could boot into Vista, the internal beeper was so loud and the OS so bloated with malware et al, I decided to try some diskless folding. I came across NotFred's minimal linux-on-a-stick folding solution, and gotta say I was mighty impressed. It was simple to setup, and the thing worked on first shot. He also incorporated windows networking via a samba share, and a web server that allows easy remote monitoring (he even has scripts to show core temps and such, and remote rebooting with -oneunit). Freakin sweet!! I believe he quit working on this back in 2010, but the v6 client works fine, and supports passkey, smp, and all that grooviness. I know I won't be getting mad PPD from this laptop, but the power consumption is very low, and I hate retiring perfectly workable systems to the scrapper.

The funny thing abt this was the laptop has a working HDD but no (working) DVD drive, so I had to use a USB stick. Considering how cheap USB sticks are these days if I was ever to build a folding farm I could save money by booting off USB sticks.
