OLED car dashes... is it just me or is this stupid?

Of all the tech ... Why choose the one with known burn-in problems... why?!? Seems insanely stupid to me as they will wear out in an ugly way and likely be expensive to replace.

As much as I like how fancy they look and want to have one...I still think it's one of the dumbest moves possible. Not only from a burn-in standpoint and other issues, but what about in the future for the used market?

The amount of used cars we're all going to be stuck with that have issues with the screens, all the sensors, electronics, cameras, etc etc. It's going to be nuts.

Id take oled in a car screen. Getting rid of that grey in the screen at night while driving would be awesome. I am sure they can build in some pixel refresher that works real time to make sure burn in doesnt happen.

Pixel shifting over the long term on static displays just leads to larger burn in areas. You could maybe have the dash rotate styles/themes/skin. That could actually be kinda cool.

But using LCD's and just making sure your dash style/theme/skin avoids pure black would also get around the screen glow of LCD tech. Or just carefully designed LED backlights to match the styles/themes/skin would also avoid the LCD black glow effect.... or FALD...

That's assuming g the screen will never change which would never happen in a car with Apple car play and Android auto. Give me oeld

I'm not sure but I'll take them both. If it were an option on a car I'm plunking the cash down for it.

Headunit sure, why not. They can change constantly depending on content. But an OLED speedo & revs.... eventually your most common speeds would burn in on the screen and it would become un-readable in the worse case, ugly/annoying in the best.

A car screen technically won't stay on long enough to cause burn in. Most driving use cases are 30-60 minutes. Long drives are 4-5 hours in a go. Unless you are a taxi driver with car turned on for 12 hours in straight stretches I doubt OLED will cause burn in especially if the screen does some back ground clearing like the TVs.
