Red Dead Redemption 2: PC graphics performance benchmark review

Are there rumblings of Pascal being purposefully gimped?

A friend briefly mentioned that pascal pre day 1 driver and post day 1 driver are different in performance with Pre being better.

Not exactly shocked. Surprised the Fury's are holding out so well. Really happy about that :)

The below seems to work best now for me for 4k:

- DX12 (NOT Vulcan or the Nvidia sharpening tool won't work. Performance is just about the same anyway). Note when switching APIs the game will default to windowed borderless, and needs to be switched back to full screen for the sharpening tool to work also.
- Everything on High settings as starting point
- Textures and Trees on Ultra
- TAA to Medium
- Resolution scaling set to 14/15 (.9333)

In Nvidia control panel for RDR2 profile:

- Enable Image sharpening, leave at default .50

So with this, I get good performance (mostly locked to 60fps except in camp area, but I read camp performance is going to suck even with lower settings).

I also get the benefit of TAA with the image clarity of Nvidia's new Image Sharpening tool.

--

Another option is bumping resolution scale down one more tick to 11/12 to increase performance a bit around the camp areas and setting image sharpening to .60 to compensate (or leave it at .50, there was only a minor difference that I could see). Ultimately I liked my previous options better, but both are better than 1440p and 1800p native. 14/15 is 3571x2008 and 11/12 is 3494x1965. The latter will give better all around performance but on my 65" TV I can see better details with the former.

So, this is the first game where I find myself in the exact same position with my 1080Ti. Needing to upgrade because games were too demanding at 4k at highest settings. Except in that case, there was a 2080ti to upgrade to, and in this case there's nothing to upgrade to... not for a long while anyways.

Rockstar PC ports are always horribly optimized at launch. Not that I ever notice because it usually takes 2-3 years before they go on sale for a decent price and by then they're fixed.

what fps are you getting? i got a 2080 and 21:9 display so it should be interesting to see how much of difference there is

I havent picked it up yet cause I dont have the time to play it. Maybe today because I have a 3 day weekend with Veterans Day rolling around. I expect to be mid 50s high 40s in mostly high hopefully.

Runs fine mate, had 1 crash on the very first launch, but fine ever since. I cannot believe how much better it is than PS4 version, which I have as well.

Any idea how CPU dependent this game is? I read the one g3d article above but they are just downclocking a current CPU. How well does a cpu from a couple of generations ago do vs one of the current ones?
