Remote Wonder VE: Poor video quality.

Greetings,

I've got a question about the ATI Remote Wonder VE. I purchased this card so I could play my XBOX on my PC, instead of buying a TV. Although I'm starting to think it was a mistake. The image quality is extremely poor. To the point where I can't even read the text in games. I also notice A LOT of noise. I can see what appear to be interference lines moving up my screen. I have double checked the video cable for the XBOX on a TV and it looks perfect. I also noticed about a ½ second delay in the video. If I press left there is a noticable delay in the response on screen, however if I unplug my video cable and plug it into a TV the delay is gone.

I'm just wondering if there is any "fix" for these problems that anyone knows of?

Windows XP Pro SP2
AMD Athlon XP 3000+
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
2x512MB OCZ PC3200 EL
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro (Cat 5.4)
ATI Remote Wonder VE (latest driver from ATI)

I'm not to concerned about the interference lines as it's barely noticable, but the clarity sucks.

Thanks for any responses.

I noticed similar clarity problems with my PS2. Text looks awful.

I think it has to do with the fact your monitor is much higher resolution then a standard TV. Consequently it's more clear just how low resolution the video coming from the console is.

I believe it has to do with interpolation of the video signal. For instance your monitor is probably 1024x768 or higher resolution. And the console signal is 320x200 (i think?). Interpolation of the small image to the high resolution display doesn't work well. Now...if you were to drop your resolution of your monitor down to 640x480 (if windows even goes that low anymore) it could be considerably better...but you still have the problem that the monitor is much higher quality then a TV so it will likely still look worse, maybe not as bad though.

Although i'm completely guessing at this point :)

the problems you are describing are because of catalyst 5.3 & 5.4.... roll back to 5.2 and your problems should be solved
