Should I be folding CPU or GPU or both?

Starting to fold a little again...should I be folding with my 6970...my 8 core AMD proc or both for best results???

Both :D

Only reason not to would be for energy or noise constraints, in which case you could fold on one or the other. I personally am very biased toward CPUs (cause I'm old skool and that's how I roll... also cause only one of my machines has a GPU capable of folding.... and linux doesn't support GPU folding).

I would say both. Couple of notes on that though.

Switch your GPU slot in the F@H Client to beta. The standard AMD GPU WU's suck for points.

All AMD GPU that are not the 7 series (like your 6970) will need a CPU core. You will have to configure your CPU slot to be SMP 7. Note that some WU's will fail with odd numbers like 5 or 7 so if you get a bunch of failures drop it down to SMP6.

SMP7 or 6 depending on if your CPU has hyper threading btw. If not then SMP3 or 2 if you run into problems.

I run both at home and work. Since i don't like to pay attention to it i just set mine to SMP6 so i never worry about running into failing WU's.

Slight problem. MY CPU is folding butmy GPU seems to not be folding. Its stuck on the 8900 and says loading and connected but it isn't folding any ideas? This is with client-type beta set.

So I deleted everything and reinstalled...not my problem seems to be the GPU is folding and not the CPU.....any clue? See pic below..
