SLI is officially dead

not news
other than DirectX12 games that support SLI natively it has been

but some DirectX12 games do and some still may

Vulkan also i think can do SLI

2077 is DirectX12 only

Oh Billy, it’s time to give up that dream of a 2080 Ti SLI with no HDMI 2.1:cry:

there is CFX also with two Navi 2x with HDMI 2.1 we will see
NV isn't everything

hell i think it is posable to mGPU with DirectX12 with a Navi 2x and a 2080 Ti
just not well yet if ever

So what was the last, most recent game to implement SLI/CFX support in DX12 (or Vulcan)?

So a game from two years ago with no support from a major title since? :bleh:

Deliver Us the Moon supports sli, just not sure if it is DX12 or DX11 that it supports it in.

Also, SLI isn't dead per Nvidia's own site, they are Transitioning to Native Game Integrations (also lists the games that support multigpu va dx12):

https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/ans...ort-transitioning-to-native-game-integrations

Basically it will be up to the devs to impliment it rather than thru drivers. I

Right, have not seen SLI and RTX working together.

Hmm... they have to work together to make it worthwhile. Otherwise it will be something like running SLI back in the day except you can't use it with dot3/environmental bump mapping/pixel shading

Are you refering to RTX as in the cards or RTX as in Ray tracing.. nobody says it had to support Ray tracing in SLI..

Edit: But I agree with Exposed above.

I guess I said it? Support SLI while running RT? Does Shadow of the Tomb Raider support SLI and RT concurrently? I dunno, asking to find out.

It must not be supported because I couldn't find a single example of Tomb Raider and Deliver the Moon with both SLI and ray tracing enabled.

Though, even if we did have SLI in all ray traced games today, SLI would still be dead simply due to DLSS 2.0

Would you rather buy a second expensive GPU or simply flip the DLSS 2.0 toggle switch? Moving forward only the 3090 will have SLI support, that's $3k of hardware right there. Or you can just flip on 8k DLSS.

So with waning interest and unlikely support from most developers I'd say it's pretty much effectively dead for gaming. It's becoming more and more niche.

:yep:

Basically once we got DX12 and Vulkan the writing was on the wall. Because developers already have a million things to do. Testing and implementing SLI/Crossfire/Multi-GPU was never going to realistically take off. I said that all the way back when we found out DX12 and Vulkan would require the developers to implement it instead of the GPU makers driver side.

:nope: Nope, Billy is going to buy a 2080 Ti and getter done! So much for the purchase of the CX with HDMI 2.1:bleh:

if i were to do it i would move them to the other side of my two system case to the asus zenith extreme that i build for SLI/CFX i would upgrade the 1900x maybe

after i put a Navi 2x or if not a 3080 20gb ftw ultra on my C8H 3800X if it is not a 5900x by then

if i can get a second 2080 ti strix for cheap like 400 why not
if they ever get the 3800's out so the 2000's stop going back up

I just can't see any developer going through the trouble to support dual 3090 GPU setups. That's over $3,100 MSRP for the setup and the number of people that would actually own that is so small it just won't be supported. Even with the 2000 series still supporting it, the game developers ignored it for the most part. There isn't any official support for SLI on Nvidia's end and most DX11 titles that supported SLI can now be maxed out at 4k on a single card.

I thought about buying two 3090's for 3D art but with the prices being as high as they are and the complete lack of SLI supported games, it will only happen if I really need the extra performance in blender or Daz. Given how much power the 3090 has, I'll probably stick to a single card. This means less power draw and less heat with no need for a custom liquid cooling loop.
