So that Goldeneye xbox360 port finally leaked.

I wonder if the millions of parties involved for licensing rights agreements was the reason why Goldeneye got a CoD style remake during the Wii era and not a remaster like this leak.

Rumor back in the day was that all parties had agreed to release the game except Nintendo. Apparently Nintendo thought it was entitled to basically 100% of the profit from the game.

Apparently m$ had bent over backward to accommodate Nintendo, including offering to let them release the original Goldeneye on the Wii virtual console without paying any royalties at all, but Nintendo is Nintendo and wouldn't do the obviously right thing.

Nintendo has, from my understanding, always been a nightmare of a company to work with. At least from every account I've read or developer I've heard speak about it.

I think things have changed in recent times (they seem more lax and open since all the management changes) but yeah ive heard snippets of the same thing back during the Wii era.

I also read back in the day that the Goldeneye license itself was in a bit of a limbo situation (007 rights were kind of going all over the place) since none of the game companies had the rights to it and couldn't release a remaster without the OK from whoever owned it at the time.

Reports suggest that the whole game was cancelled in nearly complete state, on the whim of one unnamed Nintendo executive.

I wonder who the exec was....

My guess would be Satoru Iwata (president) or Shigeru Miyamoto (seems to hate any game type that appeals to the western audience, or rather anything HE perceives to be not fun)

They're alot more open with cooperation nowadays though.

Just me? Or is this kinda allot of Nintendo related leaks of games that never got released as of late?

I'm counting 2. You'll notice that I named both threads similarly ;) :D :D

Well it's just these rarely happen at all, where we get an unreleased/cancelled game, and now we get two in a fairly short period and both are related to things Nintendo prevented from release. It's kinda awesome :)

Thanks for the posts SubCog

Yup, and both from Rare as well. I kindof expected it would turn out that both were from the same employee, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It really does seem to be a big cooincidence.

Bring on more cooincidences!

Sounds like Goldeneye is incoming in the next few weeks. Rumor that it's going to hit both Xbox and switch. Why? Because Iwata is dead. Geez, as much as I love that guy, he really screwed this up massively. RIP.

I wonder if this is going to be the Xbox360 version, or something remastered even more? I'd love to play this on my 360.

I also wonder if this might be because of the Activision acquisition. It gives ms a ton of leverage to negotiate these kinds of things. "You want CoD? Hey, remember that time you told us that our Goldeneye remaster could go screw itself?"

I heard this same rumor. Seems like goldeneye is gonna make a comeback in some manner (remaster/HD remake/heck the activision acquisition might also have given them some sweetener as well since they actually made the daniel craig remake...i thought it was a pretty good game, if a bit CoDish. Heck maybe the 007 or goldeneye game license actually needed Activision's sign off to proceed....)

Yeah I would say Iwata and to a lesser extent Miyamoto were pretty much "our way or the highway" running the show. Works for themselves but kind of sucks for any 3rd parties who dont want to (or just cant) throw the hammer at Nintendo titles to help support them.

I believe Iwata started off as a game designer under Miyamoto and worked his way up to the president of Nintendo...would kind of explain his stance somewhat (Miyamoto seems very hesitant to change and doesnt seem to like anything non-family friendly or anything "samey"....His philosophy seems to be everything has to have a unique way to play....which is why we never got a new F-zero to this day and we get stupid gimmicky crap like Starfox Zero and its wonky controls).

With that said, and i did mention it previously, the current regime seems very open to cooperation and expansion (plus MS and Nintendo have been very buddy buddy as of late) and they dont seem to mind giving the ok for stuff like Goldeneye.

Shifting tides at Nintendo had to happen eventually. Their approach to allot of things is dead simply wrong, backwards or bad. Especially the Fing suing of fan projects, outright idiotic approach to streaming and YouTube. All of which are often free advertising. If they don't start catching up fast ... well you know what people like more than hero? To see one fall.
