Unfortunately my son's 7950 expired on Friday exhibiting nice colourful bands on the screen and refusing to go into windows. Immediately I thought graphics card problem so I hooked up the IGP (he has an AMD A10 5800K) and it booted into windows but after 5 minutes it just restarted and went into a loop and wouldn't restart.
I then installed my venerable 5850 and it booted without fault and worked flawlessly to my amazement. He only plays RTS/RPG games at 1080p and the 5850 handled them well. I'd promised him that he could have have my old motherboard (intel Z77), my old CPU (2500K) and 32gb DDR3 ram so today I built his new PC and found his 160gb boot drive was completely full and his 1TB games drive I'd bought him 12 months ago was also full WTF! Short story major issues but finally got it running.
Now my quandary is I've promised him my Fury Pro card before, hopefully, he goes to University this fall. So he asked me if he could have it now to which I said no as Vega is not out yet and until it is you can't have my card. He goes to University in September and a promise to my son is something I'm not going to renege on. So where the f**k is Vega I need it now or otherwise I'm going to have to buy a 1080ti and screw my freesync monitor. AMD are not my favourite company at the moment because of this Vega delay that should have been out by now. I even looked at getting him an RX580 in the interim but they're all sold out!
Any sensible suggestions?
