Starfield - futuristic space exploration sci-fi RPG from Bethesda

These are 100% subjective annoyances:

- Loading screens, ALL the time everywhere. Enter ship, loading screen. Fly to another system, loading screen. Land, loading screen. Exit ship, loading screen. Enter a building with ONE ROOM, loading screen.
- Same engine as previous games, with almost all the same issues. People floating around, getting stuck on things and so forth.
- Planets have invisible walls. Want to travel around? That's a nope. Wanna fly your COOL spaceship around? No you don't, because the engine can't take it.
- Skill system is moronic - it's essentially built to make you grind in a single player game. Fabulous stuff. Everything is a grind.
- Engine sucks. It sucks. It ****ing sucks. It's garbage.

I agree some of my issues are nitpicking but it's 2023 and it's a 70€ game - we as gamers should demand more for this price.

I have to agree with all of this. I am finding the game entertaining in places, but if I had paid $70+ for it instead of GamePass, I'd be pretty salty. It's missing so many basic QoL features that it almost punishes you for trying to play it. The dialogue is laughably bad in most places and characters don't seem to have any reaction to anything you've accomplished once the mission ends. Oh you're a full fledged Ranger now, that'll have no influence on any other questlines. The biggest selling point, the exploration, feels like a cheap NMS rip-off and the procedurally generated set pieces make no sense. Why would there be a picnic set up on a barren toxic hellscape? I find myself wondering where 8 years of AAA dev time went.

First, an enormous thank you to all of you playing Starfield and your support. We are absolutely blown away by the response and all you love about the game. We’re also reading all your great feedback on what you’d like to see improved or added to the game. This is a game we’ll be supporting for years and years to come, so please keep all the feedback coming! Even if we don’t get to your requests immediately, we’d love to do it in the future, like city maps. Our priority initially is making sure any top blocker bugs or stability issues are addressed, and adding quality-of-life features that many are asking for.

This first update is a small hotfix targeted at the few top issues were are seeing. After that, expect a regular interval of updates that have top community requested features including:
  • Brightness and Contrast controls
  • HDR Calibration Menu
  • FOV Slider
  • Nvidia DLSS Support (PC)
  • 32:9 Ultrawide Monitor Support (PC)
  • Eat button for food!
We’re also working closely with Nvidia, AMD, and Intel on driver support, and each update will include new stability and performance improvements.

Additionally, we are working on our built-in mod support (Creations) that will work across all platforms similar to what we’ve done with Skyrim and Fallout 4. This full support is planned to launch early next year. Until then, we know our PC community is already very active in the modding space and if you have any feedback on how we can make this better, please let us know . Modding and creating in our games will always be a vital and important part of who we are, and we love seeing the community get off to such a strong start.

Keep the feedback coming, we really do read it all, and thank you all again for taking this journey with us!

After about an hour of trying to find a fix for the contrast, I gave up and got a refund. According to a reddit post, the washed out look was intentional. I spent a lot of time turning on and off HDR and messing with other monitor settings. WTF were they thinking?

Reshade, simple fix.

nah, there is a much better mod. the one pax posted. it adds no extra weight to it, it just removes the colour grading. Its excellent, makes 95% of the game look much better, and about 5% look a little worse. Turns out some parts of the game actually look good with the filters.

Man, I really need to get back into Starfield. How long is the main quest? I am only level 10 and dicking around somewhere that I forgot.
