Why not Intellivision?

I was at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo this weekend, and I couldn't believe how many intellivisions I saw for sale. Does that mean that intellivision is hot right now? Or that nobody wants it?

IMO, nobody wants it. The collecting cycle the Intellivision should have been in has come and gone. Basically, if collecting for it didn't start to surge in popularity in the mid to late 90's when gamers that were approaching the age of 30 had nostalgia for it, its just never going to happen.

To me the Intellivision Amico as a product makes no sense. I expect it to be another failure, and another step towards the inevitable classic console market crash.

I think you're right. I own a ton of consoles, but have little interest in intellivision. For me, it's right down there with the Jaguar & CDi.

The games are crappy like the 2600, but without the mass-market appeal and nostalgia. I never owned one as a kid, and don't see anything compelling unless you're a historian.

I did have an Odyssey 2 when i was super little, but I really don't have much nostalgia for it either. Like the Intellivision or jaguar, when I think of buying one, I groan about how much time I'd have to sync in, and I'm just not interested enough to spend the time or $$ on it.

Wasn't this considered the poor mans console? Everyone I knew that owned one was poor :p

Actually, at the time it was released, it was quite expensive. It's competitor at the time was the Atari 2600 and it was in most areas $100 more than the Atari (keep in mind, we are talking 1980 prices here).

I remember them back in the day. At the time, they had some of the best sports games out there.

Yup there was a lot of good games for it, my first d&d games I played as well.

@dc it wasn’t cheap at all
