Win10 install left MSE. How to remove?

I upgraded Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 10 and while everything went smooth, the upgrade should had removed MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) but didn't. Now I am left without a working MSE and I cannot uninstall it (uninstaller doesn't work with Windows 10).

So, how do I remove MSE manually?

You could give this a try. Seems like an easy enough fix, so hopefully it'll work.

Otherwise, if you're still inside the first month, you can download the media creation tool to get a working Win10 .iso, roll back to Win7 and uninstall MSE, and then upgrade to Win10 again... which is obviously far from a simple solution.

Or just back up your important stuff, then nuke and reinstall Win10 (using either the reset option, or a good old-fashioned reinstall). At the end of the day, it's really the only way to be sure.

And then be sure to thank MS for being too ignorant to avoid the problem with their own stupid program to begin with. :yep:
