Xiaomi Mi Max 3

Finally got it! Free air shipping from aliexpress too tho customs held it for a week it would have been here in about 2 weeks.

Man what an upgrade so much faster than the finally retired old Note 2. Huge screen I dont need to pull out the reading glasses anymore. At least for now. Note 2 easily fit inside the screen lol...

Fingerprint sensor is fast. Was a bit worried that with the Snapdragon 710 version of the Mi Max 3 not coming out that the SD 636 might be a bit of a slouch but not at all so far.

Only downside so far is the thing is heavy. Its the battery obviously. 5500 mah isnt light. Its heavier than the Note 2 with its big Otterbox case.

Full charge took about an hour and a half. Ill see how the standby goes.

Its missing 2 things which is NFC (dont think Ill miss that) and wireless charging but I might get a kit for that on amazon... so used to wired charging I dont know if a slow wireless charger kit is worth it tho. Note 2 didnt have wireless charging either.

The glass screen protector is nice too I had tried some plastic ones that sucked on the note 2. It was creepy the way the glass just sucked itself to the screen leaving a perfectly clear screen. I can barely tell its on. Cheap flip case is ok for it for now. And it fits easily in jacket pockets. Dont ever think of putting something this big in a pants pocket tho.

Just a slight update for standby charge and its at 70% after 3 days. Mind you just light use some msgs and app installation and configuring and facebooking...

But that still amazing. I think at this rate I can go to Friday which would be a solid week assuming I dont watch movies or play games which I rarely do on the phone but still... My note 2 never got passed 3 days on a charge.

Still not quite used to the weight but the size is fine. I wish I had a small scale but I feel this thing approaches over a pound or 2... lol

Officially its 221 g phone alone which is half a pound...

This is madness I tell you madness!

Day 9 on the first full charge and Im at 30% with about 3hrs of screen time. Which isnt much obviously as Im at home last few weeks so moreso on homephone than anything.

But still we're talking huge standby time. Sure the 5500 mah batt has a lot to do with it vs the old ~3000 mah on the Note 2 but man am I happy to see how much better Android 8.1 is over Jellybean 4.2.2 in managing battery life. This is standard setup with whatever original settings the system uses to save battery life.

Gonna try to push it to 12 days...

We need reliable outlets in the US to start selling these. I'd like to try one some day...

have almost the same experience with the mate 10 pro. Charge lasts forever. Took some time to get used to the weight, though.

Ya Im getting used to the weight fairly quickly but was already coming off an also relatively heavy Note2 with heavy Otterbox case. My buddy gave up on that kind of case when he got his Note 5 and comparing my MiMax 3 with his note 5 thought it was a bit heavier. We both just use light flip cases. I felt it was as well but he thought he could get used to it... But I can see people used to somewhat small lightweight phones will have issues if they want a big screen...

Not having to pinch to zoom so much or pull out the reading glasses is great. Ill look into a SD 710 version of this if they make it. They come out with a new Mi Max every year...

Local prices finally popped up on newegg and I saved about 200$ CAD ordering from Aliexpress.

It's not the weight, it's the size. I'm always worried it's going to slip out of my pocket because it's not the easiest thing to jam into a pocket.

I bought some running shorts that had an inner pocket specifically meant for a phone. It wasn't meant for a Mi Max, though.

I've had the original Mi Max for about two years now and it still holds the charge for well over a week.

Great to hear. Im gonna keep this phone a while 2-3 years. I put it on the charge last night at 16%... Probably could have gotten another day of standby and minor use out of it but would have been charged today at the latest.

Still impressive at 11-12 days.

what cell phone provider are you using it with? from looking at the specs, it doesn't seem to have a whole lot of relevant bands for t-mobile or att ...in the US anyway.
edit: https://www.frequencycheck.com/comp...mi-max-3-dual-sim-td-lte-64gb-m1804e4t/canada looks like no lte in canada either.

why would anybody buy this phone in north america? legitimately curious.

You need the global rom model for it but I did check and most of the 4g bands were had...

Currently only using 3g with loading min on it from 7/11 Speakout tho as Im shopping some cell deals...

Ya the dual sim one is chinese model. I dont have dual sim...

Dont know why that page isnt listing it yet but the one I have is M1804E4A. Global Rom 9.6.

The models listed have T or C at the end (2 of them with model numbers A like me but also C but also dual sim) so probably the initial chinese release of the phone. Being that Im on 3G on the Rogers network anyway shows the page isnt up to date on this.

4 out of 10 4G bands in Canada and the same in the US on this site...

Looks like it’s good on Rogers . I think the bands are way too limited for the US . Need 2 4 12 17 plus couple more for max coverage on T-Mobile here.

Xiaomi also sells the Poco F1, for $200 you get a Snapdragon 845, 6" 2246x1080 IPS screen, with similar cameras as their flagship mi8 (except OIS). Also available is IR face unlock also feature also lifted form Mi8.

It has limited availablity, focusing primarily on Africa, South-Asia and South-East Asia

widely available over here. Around 250 bucks. And yes, it's a surprising well done mobile.

Poco seems like a good deal but I really hate notches so I picked up Mi A2 instead. Not many new phones comes without notches

Xiaomi wants to keep breaking barriers they should put various socs on various screens sizes. If the price is only slightly higher (50-100$) to get a 845 soc vs my 636 they should offer it imo and would probably sell a ton.

But man some of you guys get awesome prices. Looks like prices in the EU are better than imported from China.
