Seek & Destroy Mar 5, 2010 07:04 PM

Thanks. It would look nicer with your 5970 in it. :p

caveman-jim Mar 6, 2010 12:07 PM

Needs Eyefinity.

Expect some new pics within the week. I just bought a ThermalTake Element V. :-)

*facepalm* Don't ask how much I spent...

Quickstrike Mar 6, 2010 11:35 PM

LoL. You might need a newer/larger dinner table for that jumbo monitor setup you have :p.

Looks good.

That seems a bit excessive even by my standards.

Wonder what his wife thinks ? Probably not as enthusiastic as cavey.

Mangler Mar 7, 2010 05:46 AM

Did some minor updates to my rig, removed a 2*120mm radiator, removed one thing and replaced it with two other things.

I saw the dining room table, that was enough to know it would'nt go over well. :D You need a lab / converted garage or the like.

caveman-jim Mar 7, 2010 02:53 PM

It's best to stay inside with electronics in Alabama. In the summer the temperature and humidty will kill stuff quick, as well as making it intolerable to work. In the winter the humidty drops so low everything acquires static charge.

Humidity controlled environment FTW! Unfortunately, I don't have one to use that can accomodate Eyefinity6.

Yes, it's real. It's called AMD Eyefinity. The HD 5 series cards support up to 3 displays, with one output connected via DisplayPort. The special HD 5870 Eyefinity6 edition is capable of connecting six displays in a single large surface. We covered this at the AMD Vision launch in September 2009.

Auric Mar 7, 2010 09:06 PM

But novelty aside, do you hackshully find it more useful than, say, one large low-resolution (1920x1080) display and one or two small and optionally high-resolution displays? Not to be a downer but those are some big arse bezels.

caveman-jim Mar 7, 2010 11:32 PM

Those are pretty standard size bezels. As far as more useful... thats a lot of real estate. Mega tasking is simple - lots of documents and stuff open at once. Can watch decent quality/size Hulu and work on things at the same time. Windowed games can be done at the same time as other things, like running VM's, or writing (need lots of reference docs and browsers open, for example).

Gaming is

I don't want to spoil all the goodies for the upcoming article, though. :)*

Zero Mar 8, 2010 10:26 AM

Cavey needs to get rid of the bezels and reroute the panel buttons, so it looks like one giant ass screen.

The bezels just cover metal frames that give the LCDs their structure.

caveman-jim Mar 8, 2010 02:55 PM

Yeah. I'd have to remove the panels themselves and remount them with the electronics etc. Something I'm not willing to do.

Wimp. :bleh:

Dungeoncrawler Mar 8, 2010 06:38 PM

Nice setup Cavey; I'm seriously thinking about the 3 monitor setup myself. Lots of money burning a hole in my pocket :D . Speaking of...any concrete street-date(s) slated for that monster 4gb 5970 :p ?

caveman-jim Mar 8, 2010 07:03 PM

None that I have heard of, even if I were not under any NDA.

The stands don't work that way. There are two stands, a 2x2 and a 2x1. As far as angling, that's a personal pref.
