Bad news for the video card scene

Looks like the video card shortage is going to last at least throughout 2021 with no sign of slowdowns.

The PC gamer article notes all the ways the entire world is trying to handle the shortage, and how none of the tactics are working.

https://www.pcgamer.com/gpu-shortage...or-mitigation/

The Toms Hardware article is focusing on tracking the GPU prices and how much people have been willing to pay to get these now massively overpriced video cards (and it's not good news, people will literally pay almost anything). The current trend is that the cards are going to get more expensive as time goes on, not cheaper.

If availability continues to decline, they will absolutely get more expensive. No doubt about it.

Supply Demand + Inflation = $$$

Prepare to be paying $1000 plus for low end GPUS boys and girls.

Nagorak Mar 18, 2021 07:37 PM

I think the only reason people are willing to pay so much is because they're going to be "making money" with them. As soon as crypto currency fizzles out again there won't be demand for low end GPUs at $500+. There just won't be a PC Gaming scene with GPUs that expensive.

Not likely. It's not regular market conditions pushing this.

Bingo. Plus it's also happening because of supply chain issues that are completely unrelated to being able to make enough chips. Those will start to resolve as vaccinations goes up and the threat of COVID starts to recede.

Eventually will it stabilize? It should, the question that nobody can answer is when.

Better hope our vid cards don't die...:bleh:

I dont think so, simply because consoles will become vastly more popular and balance the demand before that point.

Honestly...I completely forgot there was an "other" video cards section.

I think the sadness is for the vid card future looking bleak, at least in the short-middle term, to which I share his tears. :bleh:

In a market where you can't buy a gpu and you still want to enjoy a newer game you can turn down resolution without blurring and still keep high / ultra high quality settings.

3300 here in Dubai.

nutcrackr Mar 20, 2021 11:19 PM

Prices are absurd and cards are barely available. Looks like I'll but stuck with my card for another 10 months :/

KAC Mar 21, 2021 12:43 AM

If you gays are into it keep checking Hardforums. There are some good dudes there that sell for MSRP. I got my 2 FTW3 cards from there without issues.
