Wow! THAT is awesome! Why the 6 SSDs? Gonna' go along with what somebody else already said and hazzard that it's for a large Steam and Origin library, maybe?

Those add up to what- 1.5TB? Gotta' wonder if you ever even see any loading screens. :p

Don't you remember? AdamK47 used to post his impressive game collection at nVn. Back then, close to 500 installed games all at once!

You're right! So it's got to be that gaming collection. I don't know how many individual titles I have but it's no where near 500, and I'm already pushing 500GB... just counted and I have about 79 games apparently. Add in the few titles I have on Origin and I'm just over 500GB worth.

500 games... yeah he likely needs all those 512GB SSDs. :p

Wow that's a crazy setup! Any particular benefits from running 6 SSDs in RAID0? Surely you've more than maxed out the controller?

The LSI SAS 2308 controller is built in to the motherboard, not sure of the clockspeed on the PPC 440 (800MHz stock) and if it has NVcache (doesn't look like it), but ASRock claim up to 3.8GB/s with 8 SSD's.

AdamK47 Dec 9, 2012 12:27 PM

851 games now. About 300GB left on the array.

Here's a shot at an initial benchmark I've done. I've seen people getting higher with some tweaking to the controller, but I'm more than happy with this performance.

Complete setup. Nothing spectacular :)

Decided I'd try something a bit different and see if I like it. I've been considering mounting my 37" 1080P TV to the wall in front of my desk and using that as a primary monitor. Then use the 24" as a secondary display. I wasn't sure if I would be sitting too close or how it might look...figured I'd give it a shot. Couldn't hurt anything. My entertainment center is narrow and fit in the gap between the wall and desk. I stacked books until it was the right height and hooked it all up. Going to use it like this for a little bit and see if it's worth doing. If I like it, this opens up the opportunity to get a new extremely thin LED tv and then I'll mount the speakers on the wall to the left and right and center in the middle of course. This makes for a cleaner look and a LOT more desk space. Especially when I finish my new build and get the PC off the desk.

Anyway, here it is.

First impressions...not sure yet. It's not as clear as the 24" monitor quite obviuosly, and I actually have to move my head just a tiny bit to see the full screen...but just barely. I can always move my desk back a bit as well. I have a ton of room to do so. Hell, I'd actually be able to get behind it easier if I did anyway. This might not be bad with the desk back another foot or so. Going to try some gaming this way. :p

What do you guys think?

EDIT: It got dwarfed in the photo...it doesn't look that big. But it seems overly huge in person sitting in front of it. Will take some getting use to I think.

demo Dec 16, 2012 10:03 PM

Set the TV to its PC profile if it has one, it should be nice and clear then, just like a large monitor. By default it will have TV post processing enabled, which is good for TV, but not for text or pc images. What model is it?

I have a 40" LED connected to my PC too and like to use it occasionally.

The TV isn't anything too great, but it does have decent IQ. It's a Toshiba Regza display, though I'm not sure which model at the moment. I just played BF3 on it, and it was outstanding. Like an IMAX almost it's so big. Need to see what kind of fatigue I'll get with it before I make any long term decisions.

EDIT: It was on "Preference" for the picture mode, but I had already been using this as a PC display to play games using a controller. There was no difference in image going from "Preference" to "PC".

thanks mullet. i do love how the case looks, but it's not exactly the most user friendly, especially with all the cable routing features of newer cases. and it weighs more than my kock. but it does have that sleek look that you can't deny.

plus, i do everything i can to emulate your wife. :bleh:

I like your desk. Where did you get it?

CurrentlyPissed Dec 19, 2012 12:36 AM

New desk. Atlantica Gaming Desktop.

Built in Gamepad holder
Built in Headphone Holder
Built in speaker stands on the sides
Built in Cup holder, yes, a cup holder.
Cable management system including a Surge protector tray under the desktop
And a place to set your phone/wallet and it has slots for your charger.

Desk is incredibly well thought out for it's overly simplfied design. Has a neat "faux carbon fibre" top as well. Very solid construction.

It's a fantastic monitor. 30", 2560x1600, 10-bit, H-IPS, etc... one of the best available.

AdamK47 Dec 19, 2012 03:57 AM

Damn you Adam, don't make me buy another one

-edit- is that 3rd card for PhysX?

Seek & Destroy Dec 20, 2012 10:49 AM

The Antec ISK 110 on the left is a build I did as a gift to my parents for Christmas.

They are going from an Athlon 64 3700+ (amazingly still has a running GeForce3 as well) to an i3 3220 w/ 4GB ram, 80GB Intel X25G2.

:)

Edit: Here's the guts. Hard to do much with the cables with so little space.
