Not sure if there are technical advantages to specific numbers or not, but i just happened to pick 1000 because to me this seems like a sweet spot for resizing while not ruining the details of the image.

I do 700, thats the width of my blog and thus that size also gets uploaded to fb/flickr/500px etc. I upload full rez to my smugmug (currently uploaded about 30 gigs on their servers)

Out of those services, which do you prefer best? Or do they all have their own strengths? I currently have Flickr and Smugmug, but both subscriptions are due and im not sure if i should keep both. I mean i really like Smugmugs presentation better, but there isnt really a community. Not that i really need any, but its nice to have for some specifics. I guess smugmug would be ideal if i was to offer sites to clients and such, but i dunno when/if im ever going to get to that point. 500px seems good as well as some of you have already jumped aboard.

Well, I use Smugmug for my sales only, Flickr is a great tool for social networking (its all about the groups and getting your picture out there, I've gotten jobs and great opportunities from it, plus it has been a great host)... 500px is still very new to me, I like it a lot so far. I actually use SquareSpace for my main website and smugmug only for the print sides of things as smugmug is very dated for a main website presentation.

I think I'll continue to pay for Flickr and post my photos there to get feedback. I'll also use 500px to post my "best of the best", but using their free only service. Still waiting on Flickr to do something about their presentation of photos and overall site. It's a complete mess. But it's owned by Yahoo, so it figures.

that's what i do too--1 always upload full rez shots so people that i share with can download them at their best quality. and i'm kinda lazy--why should i resize every photo i upload when i don't share all of them on forums?

Honestly, i like the orig better, the PP one looks almost too pixely/digitized. Too much sharpen maybe?

2 sb600s one to camera left, one to camea aright for those, you can see somne light from a flash on the ground in the 4th pic.
and the sun was behind in both

not alot of effort, just shot them in manual AS FOR SOME REASON MY HIGH SPEED SYNC WASNT WORKING PROPERLY.. BAH CAPS LOCK
and adjusted them quick till the light looked good
other shots are just one sb600 on the camera.

Sorry for all the questions, but i dont know many other photogs who i can ask these but... did you place the flashes on stands or just prop them with whatever was around? Any diffusers? Any recommendations on what brands to use for this stuff? Im totally lost... no rush if you do answer and if i seem pushy, sorry.

i have flash stands, i got them off ebay i found some that were like 2 for $40. and they are actually really good quality, go like 15 feet high.
diffusers theres none for those shots, as the day before i had umbrellas in the flash stands and a freak gust of wind came and broke them lol

in those 2 shots i think i have one on a stand, and the other one just on the ground on my little cactus wireless reciver i had attatched

Thanks.. book ordered.

Went out today but with the rainy weather last night and coolish temps today this is the only guy I saw.. having a afternoon snack.

Nice picture!

I've read the book 3-4 times. I revisit it when I feel like I hit a wall and I generally learn something new when I do reread it. It's a real easy read and really gets one off to the right start with photography. It's highly recommended throughout photography forums for beginners.

I like #3. It's an alright show I suppose. He shares lots of tips on how he's getting the shots (but fails to mention he obviously Photoshops his images). He's a little to fanatical about his locations for my taste, but if your a landscape photog, you could learn from it.

Been trying to get a photo of one of these guys all summer. Not the greatest shot though. He was far off, it was early morning, poor light, and hazy.
