If you run at specs, it's good.

If it's all you can afford go for it, it's usually a little slower and has a shorter warranty but it's worth the price.

seriously when ddr runs at 400 mhz, i think a nanosecond is irrelevant.

However I used to see a good performance difference between Low latency and Ordinary (1 ns difference) on SDRAM, On DDR, i can't seem to...

Generic ram doesnt overclock well. It sometimes has quality problems as well, but i have some generic ram by Kbyte, some no name and it works fine.

Whatever you get dont get from kingston. They have outrageous prices. They watned close to 300 dollars for a gig of pc2700 when I could get the same thing from kbyte for 180. Even corsair was $100 cheaper.

check out geil ram. it is cheap, and still good. they also have high performance pc3200 and pc3500 ram, which is a little bit more, but is a lot cheaper than corsair or kingston hyper x.

i heard that geil ram (for sum reason) dusnt like AMD... iv herd a lot of ppl with AMD machines ave problems when they threw a few sticks of geil in...

When i get my 8Rda+ back out of RMA im gonna build a computer (trying to keep under 500 dollard [w/ the generic {2x 256 or might go 3x} i got it at $480us]) thats why i was asking if generic is bad...

Some "generic" ram actually could overclock quite well, about a year ago I bought a stick of 256MB DDR266 to run a total of 512MB of ram in my system. I test the module and it could oc close to DDR333 level , I took a closer look at the chip set on the ram module and it's made my Micron, which is a well known memory manufactor. The other "generic" DDR266 module which I still couldn't identify what brand is it, oc to only 144Mhz(288).

So when shop for generic ram, it depends on what chip set they offer you. But if you don't plan on overclocking your system then any generic ram is ok as long as they could run on spec. And you want @ least DDR400 just to be safe.

I also have another question, how well is Infineon DDR400 for overclocking? in a generic ram level that is.

Ive been buying OEM or Generic RAM for years.. I dont buy anything I dont need.. (I run a 2400XP cpu, which is 166fsb and 166DDR is 333 or PC2700).. I run it just like that.. Im not sure of performance improvements of running fsb out of spec or mismatching CPU speeds and RAM speeds..

Im a firm believer in running the CPU at the same speed of the RAM. FSB wise anyways.. I've had only one problem with a stick of OEM, and I have 1 stick of 256mb 133 speed non DDR that runs well upto 250fsb.. I'm never giving up this stick until I burn it up in one rig or another.

bu8ying checp generic ram is like closing your eyes for 5 seconds while driveing.. Sure nothibng may happen.. but if som ething does it wasnt worth it. Name brand ram is onkly like $20 more, and in all my ram experence, only 2 sticks have gone bad and only 1 didnt work at all. all were generic ram.

generic ram is usaually ok, as long as you don't want to get insane overclocks. i currently have 1 stick of 512 PC3200 from samsung and 1 stick of 512 PC3200 from Infineon. both work fine running at 333 with timings of 2-2-6, cas 2.0. but i don't overclock as the second i put the FSB out of spec, the system becomes unstable.

still can't figure out why and i don't really care anymore.
