![]() hi guys, i'm about to get asus 1950 pro 256mb pci-e,actually i ordered it. now i have x1600pro from asus too, with 7.9 ccc. my question is: can i plug the new card and leave 7.9 drivers(cause i like it,and don't want to change anything),or i must install drivers which come with the card? thanks! |

![]() You should be able to just swap it no problem. When you reboot, it should automatically recognize the change and load the appropriate driver.

![]() personally i would uninstall the driver, put the 1950pro in then reinstall 7.9 if you like it, you dont have to use the cd drivers.

![]() Never use CD-drivers, but instead always use the latest drivers from ATi. This is how i would do; 1. uninstall 7.9 2. reboot. 3. shut down computer and swap your cards (ie remove the X1600 and insert the X1950). 4. boot the computer and install the 7.10 drivers 5 enjoy your games (=

![]() Personally I'd use the CD drivers first. IF they work without problems then update to newest. Actually I wouldn't even use the newest. I know my 1950pro AGP loves the 6.12 drivers. For some reason they get 10%+ fps in CS:S stress test compared to any newer ones in XP. But yes, uninstall, remove and replace hardware and install drivers.

![]() well i finally get ASUS EAX1950 PRO 256 MB,256 bit,36 shaders,core/581MHz,memory/702MHz. now i'm waiting for a PSU to get shipped. cant wait to see what this baby can do! i think it will be double faster than my X1600 256 MB,128 bit,12 shaders,core/398MHz,memory/391MHz. |

Well I don't really want to put you down, but it's not going to make a HUGE difference from 1600pro to the 1950pro 256mb version, a 40%-60% gain is your best bet.

![]() Unless Tom's Hardware Charts are totally screwed up, almost every benchmark, with or without AA/AF, at resolutions 1280x1024 and higher, show that the X1950 Pro does indeed run twice as fast as the X1600 Pro as you said. Didn't bother checking the lower resolutions ..... http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphi...=737&chart=318 Here's another showing the same kind of results. Double the framerates ...... http://www.sharkyextreme.com/hardwar...211_3658926__7 So it looks like you were right Shoot. Last edited by HonestJohn : Oct 27, 2007 at 09:44 AM. |

lol in first case it's almost tripled! second case is doubled, although there's X1600XT which is pretty faster than my X1600PRO. you're the man! check this out: http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphi...=725&chart=281 http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphi...=725&chart=294 |

![]() Certainly it will depend to some extent on your CPU. When I upgraded from an A64 3700 to a Q6600 it felt like I had also upgraded my 7900GS.
