Thanks, acroig! I tried those steps, but the only thing that shut VBS off for me was to run the bcdedit command that was mentioned in the comments below the article. However, that also knocked out WSL2. I like WSL2, so I guess I can live with VBS.

But I ran 3dmark with and without VBS running, and I saw only a 1.5% reduction with VBS turned on (probably not statistically significant, anyway).

Looks like as of right now, win11 is slower than win10 with a ryzen cpu.

A fix is coming in October.

Yeah I found the same thing myself. Might as well leave VBS on if it helps Windows stay more secure. Not sure where folks saw the 28% performance hit, but I saw nowhere near that.

Easiest way to turn VBS off is disable all the virtualization **** in your BIOS. I don't know why you'd have it enabled for a normal PC.

Yep, I'm in the same boat here. I literally meet all other requirements including TPM 2.0....except for the 6th gen instead of 8th gen.

I wouldn't fret it. This OS reminds me of Win 10 when it came out. It wasn't finished, and evolved. By the time Win 10 loses support you'll have a new machine, and Win 11 will be in a good spot.

So wtf, how do I change the 'right click' context menu back to win10 style? I want cut, copy, paste, and winrar extract here in the context menu. It's all hidden under "more options" in win11..

I feel the same way. I even seen performance increases on a 10900K + 3080TI in benches vs a relatively fresh Win10 install that was tweaked for performance.

Upgrade wiped programs but left most data.

Well, microsoft says that with VBS and some other technologies enabled, they can compartmentalize **** better to protect against malware, etc. That's a good thing. Unfortunately, it comes at a small performance cost. 5% doesn't seem like much until you realize that's one generation CPU upgrade and 5-10 FPS.

I'm vacillating as to which is the more compelling. For people buying new hardware and having it enabled by default, all they'll see is a new laptop that's faster than their old one and more secure to boot. Most people won't know or care. It's the gaming enthusiasts that will benchmark and bitch..

If you're running Ryzen, I would wait. Apparently the fix is already in one of the Dev Builds and should be out relatively soon; I'm surprised it hasn't been released already.

As for VBS, I'm not really concerned with security too much. My rig is purely for gaming and with basic common sense you can avoid a very vast majority of malware on the web. I used to disable Spectre defenses as well with InSpectre but I'm not sure how it'll work with Win11, so I haven't tried that.

The fact I seen performances increases on Win11 vs Win10 with all the software mitigations disabled is pretty impressive on MS' part.

I'm not going to install Win 11 just yet, but I did start looking into the process. On the Windows Update page in Win 10 its telling me this PC doesn't currently meet all the system requirements for Windows 11. Yeah right.

I didn't have TPM enabled, so thought that was probably it. Went into BIOS and enabled it. Also enabled Secure Boot for good measure, although I think the requirement with that is just if the PC "supports" Secure Boot. Doesn't necessarily have to be enabled?

After that I was still getting the "doesn't currently meet the requirements" message and then found this:

Also ran the PC Health Check app and it says the PC meets the requirements.

So apparently its just an error and a known issue they are working on. My assumption is if I did want to install Windows 11 right now it would work fine doing a clean install using the Win 11 ISO.

It said I didn't meet requirements either, and to download PC Health Check. Enabled TPM, ran it, still said I wasn't eligible. I forgot what I did but then it appeared, might have rebooted or something.

After upgrading my Win10, I decided to just fully wipe the drive clean and reformat to a clean install. If you did the Win11 install through the Media Creation Tool (ISO to a flash drive) it'll work fine.
