The steam deck rocks. I just played Wipeout on the PS3, Mario Kart on the WiiU, Tetris Effect from Epic Games, and Rocket League from Steam on one device. LOL

Oddly, the systems I need to tweak are NES / SNES / Sega Genesis emulation settings. It's a tad slow, which means I have a setting wrong somewhere.
The Wipeout HD to Mario Kart (Wii or newer) has been the foil of every precursor to the steam deck. Wipeout is a little slow, working on optimizing it, but playable. Mario Kart 8 is full speed.

Now I can work on some of my backlog. so many games I've gotten over the years, now I can play every night on the couch while my wife watched her shows.

So far I'm mostly playing indie titles and older games that use a controller. It's very good for that, and my back-log is going to really enjoy this device.

I tried out Doom Eternal, which runs very smooth... but I just can't imagine playing though without a mouse & keyboard. Those little touch pads don't really do it justice... I liked my SteamPad better for the touch pads. I want to try hooking it up to a monitor, m+k, and try it that way.

I've got the Heroic launcher set up, with my GoG & Epic accounts... but I need to figure out how to configure non-steam games to run well. I'm hoping that this will be the ultimate GoG device.

I still need to dig in and figure out how to install emulators, sourceports, etc. This will be an awesome device for Doom mods and stuff like that, once I get it figured out.

Also want to install one of those new Mario 64 builds.

So yeah, tons of stuff to play with. It's going to be a massive time-sink.

I don't have a Steam Deck, but I do my gaming on Linux.

I never tried the Heroic Launcher. Maybe it is a better option. But what I use is Lutris for my GoG games.

There are a lot of user-made installers for GoG games, that set up WINE, and other options to get the game running properly.

Since you mentioned Doom, I did just recently play through all the old Doom games through GZDoom, with the fancy texture packs. For example, here's the page with the installer script for the original Doom: https://lutris.net/games/doom-1993/

I'm not sure if using the Steam Deck will be more difficult. I know there were some issues with Lutris needing to be set up through flatpak.

I would if I didn't already have it on PS4 and PS5, HOWEVER I do play it via Chiaki streaming from my PS5 to the deck.

Flawless streaming app for PS5 (and 4).

Does that count?

Valve already talking about the next iteration of Steam Decks and how they will have better hardware and more robust features.

This is why I'm waiting for the next version before I jump to the Deck.

This version looks "ok", but I'm just not impressed enough with the graphics hardware to justify the cost.

I think 2024 would be at the earliest we'd see one, spec wise. Release maybe toward end of that year or 2025.
