Default Quick Question - What is the shim on a video card?

Okay this is definately a dumb question, but i am here to learn. I am planning on deshimming my card(9500 Pro), i removed the fan and the heatsink, but i don't really know what the shim looks like, is it the yellow looking thingy on the heatsink?

If yes, i should just completely clean off the heatsink and take it off right and then re apply some thermal paste?

Please answer quickly, i want to complete my endeavours soon.

Thanks and i know, dumb quest. but i just wanna b sure, i love my radeon

Default

the shim is that metal frame around the core
the yellow stuff is the thermal pad
you might not need to remove the shim
only do that if its not level with the core

actually the only dumb question is one not asked
