Default Warranty changed from 5 years to 3 years...

ATI use to offer 5 years warranty right? Now the new cards (FireGL 8800, Radeon 8500 and 7500) only have 3 years. Anyone know why? Cause no one keeps the card for 5 years?! =) Just curious...

Who needs warranty when most of us overclock it to the MAX thus voiding the warranty?

5 years is really a ridiculous amount of time in all honesty.

Yes, but it is a bit odd. Most other manufactures extend their warranty, or at least leave it the way it is. Very few actually shorten thier warranty, especially companies that have been in business as long as ATI. This sounds like a decision that comes from the bean counter side of the company.... you know, the ones who never actually speak to customers, or are even aware of the product they sell. But come bonus time......

Most products have a 1 year warrenty let alone 3..So it's not so bad..I have my first Radeon for a year & it's still covered for 4 more years..It will be long gone by then..Actually it's moving out when I get my R8500..And my 64MB VIVO is replacing it..

Maybe I will donate it to the less fortunate..

Five years ago we were seeing the first Voodoo (read: 3D) cards...
One can only imagine what video card capabilities we'll have in our machines in 2006.

1996-2001 : 4MB of video RAM to 64MB
2001-2006 : 64MB of video RAM to ... 512MB of video RAM?

No. Quality (features) over quantity (performance). There is no real need for over 128MB on a video card in the near future, so I think features and the speed of RAM will be the most important issues. With 64MB you can do 1600x1200x32 confortably, so 128MB would be good with 4xAA. I don't think we'll go over 128MB within three years.
