Joystick PC is lead platform for Watch Dogs

Ubisoft's ever-impressive cyberpunk game Watch Dogs will be getting the PC royal treatment, it sounds like. According to CEO Yves Guillemot, speaking to Dutch site Inside Gamer, PC is the lead platform with this one.

At least part of the reason for this is due to the PlayStation 4's architecture, which he says makes it easy to port to (rather than from, as is typical).

Quote:
“We expect fewer problems with porting games to the PS4 than the PS3, which had a completely different infrastructure," he comments. "Previously, we developed games first on the Xbox 360 and then translated them onto the PS3. It took a lot of time and money to port.”

Huh? BF3 had Dx11 graphics... or they never existed?

well this game will be next gen. BF3 was last gen. Ubisoft knows it has the power and resources (much like every other developer) they can start cranking out the effects and graphics knowing that the upcoming consoles can handle what they build for a PC.

And this is why I cant wait for the new consoles to launch. i am just as skeptical and a bit bored now with most games but I believe PC's will be getting more love in the future seeing as the upcoming consoles are modified X86 X64 PC's with Radeon 7000 GPU's. And while the new specs inside the next consoles won't completely blow you away.. I find it hard to compare console unified specs to PC's.. If Devs were strictly focusing on Radeon or Nvidia 7000 or 600 cards we would be seeing some amazing games already but PC's come second and rightfully so from a business and practicality stand point.

It turned out PC was the lead platform.

Quote:
In order to assure we could deliver the quality of experience we wanted to deliver on all platforms we needed to spend our team focusing on each platform individually. Starting out our primary focus was on the PC, making sure we had a stable and fun build early on. This was used to set our ambitious visual and gameplay targets, defining how far we aimed to push the envelope. To deliver the game on the consoles we later needed then to spend effort and energy ensuring the game experience would look and play great on these platforms as well. At no point did we cease development on the PC, and the PC version of Battlefield 3 includes significant features that are unique thanks to the power and flexibility of the PC, like 64 players in multiplayer, a seamless web-based Battlelog integration, and a graphical fidelity that scales upwards as you invest in more high end components.

Spending time to make sure the game runs well on consoles does nothing to affect lead platform.

BF3 turned out a lot better than many other games. Runs well, optimized for multi core, multi gpu, control mapping, visual settings and 64 players on larger maps...

Yup. Too many PC players don't know a PC centric title when they see it.

However BF3 still had maps generally smaller than BF2, designed really for 24 players (ie consoles) and had client side hit registration. Basically its a console game, with DX11 tacked on the end for PC.

In terms of map design, it was intended to please both PC and console players, and old and new fans -- it failed and succeeded in different ways in doing so; the hit reg is a mix of client and server side; saying DX11 is tacked on is completely absurd.

I strongly disagree. kharg, caspian, firestorm are no good with 24 players on 64 player maps. The AK DLC has the biggest map in the series to date. The net code is a hybrid of client and server side. The net code is also excellent and people make a big deal out of being killed behind cover by a few high ping players. You hit what you shoot.

I've seen some footage of xbox players playing bf3, I can see why some of them would find bf3 boring, most of the maps are too big for 24p.

Metro, bazaar and seine are fine with that playercount, but the vehicle focused maps are better at 32+.

Well the maps are scaled, but sometimes there's only so much you can do, I suppose.
