Unhappy Direct X Error, Please Reinstall Direct X

Ok I have probelm but in a way its my own fault because I want to run an older game(Ultimate Race Pro) on my Rad 8500. Anyways I got this error whenever I try to start the game that sez Direct X Error, Please reinstall Direct X. Now the probelm is that the game looks for Direct X 5.0 to run and I have DX9b and the catalyst 3.8 drivers running on a Win98SE system.

Anyone have any ideas of how to trick this game so it thinks DX 5.0 is installed, maybe a registry entry or something.

BTW the game is also glide so I tried the RadGlide Emulator, but no go it still has that error because of it not finding DX 5.0

Thanx for any and all help

all the Dx versions are backwards compatible... having a newer version of Dx shouldn't be messing you up. Try reinstalling Dx 9.0b

well compatibility doesn't mean it works without modification. some older games complain when the version of dx is different than the one it expects and it won't run. i'm not sure what the solution is tho, sorry about that. try downloading Application Compatibility Toolkit from MS. it may or may not work but it has a lot of options to get older programs to run.
