LE uses ShotSpotter in my town, and several surrounding towns use it. It was authorized due to the heavy gun violence here. It hasn't made much of a difference.

Wouldn't be surprised at all if it has locked someone away who was innocent.

We haven’t heard anything on that yet, but yeah, doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened.

The internet is basically just a way to say "heres my wallet, passport, identity, etc. You can look but dont take it and use it maliciously ok?"

Anyone with an antivirus or firewall is just saying that to someone behind a window, fence, door, etc.

..as if they were actually moral to begin with. Apple works with a multitude of tech companies that have shady alliances (think military tech companies) to boost their profits. And yes, without saying too much, they thoroughly cover their tracks.

I was almost certain I will pick up the iPhone 13 Pro but I am starting to question if it's a wise choice. Living in Hong Kong, granting the government access (Apple will do it cause they are heavily reliant on China) to my local storage isn't at all the best idea albeit I am not one of those brainwashed folk who tries way too hard to "take down China" (which I find retarded IMO). If I wanted an insecure phone, I might as well just get a Xiaomi for a fraction of the price.

Anyway, I digress. Apple is two faced and everyone knows it. They are the type of company that only brings up social justice in America because it boosts their image (aka to again, boost profits).

I actually don’t, but it more feels like admiring someone like an idol since childhood, only to notice through reliable sources how he lacks a moral compass.

Hope they at least have the decency to make this right.

Just messing with you Chuck. I do get where you're coming from, but as has been stated, I also don't believe our info is safe regardless who you go with.

Pick your poison.

I prefer Apple at the moment, and as far as I know, nothing really nefarious has been done with my info.

Pressure getting to Apple on this one. It's now been pushed back/delayed.

Apple provided this statement to Ars and other news organizations today:

Last month we announced plans for features intended to help protect children from predators who use communication tools to recruit and exploit them, and limit the spread of Child Sexual Abuse Material [CSAM]. Based on feedback from customers, advocacy groups, researchers and others, we have decided to take additional time over the coming months to collect input and make improvements before releasing these critically important child safety features.

The statement is vague and doesn't say what kinds of changes Apple will make or even what kinds of advocacy groups and researchers it will collect input from. But given the backlash Apple has received from security researchers, privacy advocates, and customers concerned about privacy, it seems likely that Apple will try to address concerns about user privacy and the possibility that Apple could give governments broader access to customers' photos.
Now lets hope that delay is about Airpower long...

I'd like to know exactly what they planned to roll out, and exactly what changes are being made. Until then this statement doesn't mean much.
