![]() https://www.theverge.com/2021/8/16/2...e-release-date Intel is branding its upcoming consumer GPUs as Intel Arc. This new Arc brand will cover both the hardware and software powering Intel’s high-end discrete GPUs, as well as multiple hardware generations. The first of those, known previously as DG2, is expected to arrive in the form of codename “Alchemist” in Q1 2022. Intel’s Arc-based Alchemist GPUs will be available in both desktops and notebooks in early 2022, with Intel seemingly aiming to compete against both AMD and Nvidia here. While we still don’t know much about the performance of the first Alchemist GPUs, Intel published a teaser video today that showed prototype silicon powering PUBG, Psychonauts 2, Metro Exodus, and more. Edit: Maybe the wrong forum…Mods please move if needed. Thanks |

![]() I deleted the part of the post where I said much the same. Intel has been talking about a discreet solution forever, but like many folks, I would just love to see some other serious, viable solution be made available besides NV and AMD. |

![]() I have zero faith in anyone making something competitive at this point. It's NV and AMD for now, until there's some insane new technology that changes how we currently do things. |

![]() One thing I will say is that Intel at least has deep enough pockets to fund GPU R&D. They also have Raja Koduri working for them, among others. Yes, Vega was a bit of a disappointment, but it was at least functional and somewhat competitive (undervolted it could be pretty good, although it was still a disappointment in that it was not competitive with the 1080 Ti which had the same die size). If Intel can create a GPU on that level of competitiveness I'd have to think it would be considered a success for a first time outing. Plus with the current GPU shortage even a second-tier product might still sell well provided it is available in decent quantities at a reasonable price. |

![]() Intel making a competitive GPU... There's an old saying in Tennessee—I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee—that says, 'Fool me once, shame on... shame on you. Fool me—you can't get fooled again

![]() If the drivers are fine, and lately intel gpu drivers seem to work ok from those I know that run it, it should be good if the price is right. I just hope they make them in quantity.

![]() I wouldn't bet the farm on it. Besides, how are they going to even produce enough to meet demand if it is good enough? Everyone is having trouble right now producing enough of practically everything. Seems like it would just be more vaporware.

![]() The ultimate troll would be if intel named their GPU the Vaporware (or call it Vaporwave to change it just a little lol), and it actually gets released and is super competitive.

![]() That's perfectly fine! Low end is dead nowadays, it is up for grabs. I'd love to buy a cheap HDMI 2.1 HTPC card for Netflix and Kodi, the cheapest option today is above 300$? Gimme a break ![]() uh...sorry angry red icon, hit by mistake (multitasking)
