RESOLUTION/COLOR DEPTH SETTINGS
I've noticed that since Catalyst 2.2 with it's accompanying Control Panels, I no longer have the ability to select 8bpp or any resolutions less than 800x600. Anyone else notice this?
(I know you're groaning about these low-tech display settings, but my kids have some older games that require them and XP's old-game compatiblity settings don't seem to work).
If I take the long approach (i.e. Settings, Advanced, Adapter, "List All Modes") I can choose 640x480, 256 colors just fine, but it appears that the latest system tray tool has removed these settings. My 5-year olds could handle the 98SE's QuickRes feature just fine. Since QuickRes is gone in XP, we had to resort to ATI's system tray icon. Now even that isn't working.
IMAGE ROTATE OPTION GONE
For awhile when I right-clicked on the ATI tray icon there was an option to rotate the screen 90 or 180 degrees (a cool feature for LCD monitors with swivel heads). After several uninstalls and installs of the display drivers, control panel, WDM drivers, and MMC (attempting to fix an MMC hanging issue) I've noticed that the rotate feature is gone.
I don't remember seeing the feature with Catalyst 2.1, and I don't see it there with my current C2.3 installation. Maybe it only briefly appeared in 2.2? Or maybe XP SP1 added it, and I deleted something through the course of uninstalling driver files and registry cleaning. Anyone else seeing this problem?
