sorry about only posting one mirror for Xp "SP 1" (rather just a collection of SP1 hotfixes, 35 of them to be exact, they're all on MS ftp, but are password protected zipfiles, yet downloadable)

btw: both work just fine, but are intended for english versions of Xp/IE (will work on other languages though, but then you get IE in english)

imrpoved my stability and performance a bit

I reaction was urgghh, an "XP" patch, no point downloading it until there's at least 3!

hehe there's 35 patches ya know, and this Pack hasn't been updated in a while so there's more on Windows Update
one of them is for DirectX 8.1 even
one for NTFS.SYS etc.

the SP1 for IE6 gave me the speed that there was in the "half way through" betas of IE6

and btw: SP1 for XP ONLY works on English versions
(it won't install at all on other languages)

Is it actually worth installing all the WinXP patches? I have installed all the ones on the Windows Update page...are some of these patched a duplicate? Will the "non-duplicate" ones be eventually on the WIndows Update site?

well do you think it's woth installing Windows 2000 Service Pack 2?
if the answer is yes, then yes

these are the first 35 hotfixes that will in time be a part of Windows Xp Service Pack 1 (but when SP1 is here it will be filled with over 100 of Hotfixes, only difference is that the SPs come with a nice installer for you)
none of the hotfixes are considered beta

some of the "non-duplicate" will eventually be on Windows Update some you'll have to ask MS permission to download etc.
but they'll all be availible in SP1

so it's not beta or anything
it's just a collection of all MS Hotfixes for Xp up until now

the IE6.0 SP1 is pretty much the same, a load of hotfixes for IE, one of them is downloadable right now
but it also might have some other stuff that changes the actually proggy, and those changes may be considered beta, I dunno

it works just fine, improves stability and performance on all the rigs I've tested it on, and not a single person that has downloaded it has had any problems with it (I posted the same links on a couple of sites)

and oh yeah, if it does in some case cause problems, there's uninstallers for it so don't worry

but all of these are straight from MS own server

Candyman, just run Update.bat or install them one by one

Oh I know where they came from. I saw them a long time ago. If this is what I think it is, it's just a collection of hotfixes gathered over time. I'd rather just wait until Microsoft compiles them into one big file and names it "Service Pack". I would consider this an "incomplete" or "beta" Service Pack at best. I am patient. I can wait.

Microsoft had the IE6 SP1 update on it's "Windows Update" site for about 3-5 hrs before they realized that they still weren't complete and had some security issues, etc... so they went ahead and removed them altogether to further improve the patches; so, I guess you can say that those that have downloaded or are thinking about downloading, consider it a "beta" update.
