Default My Sister-In-Law Is An Anti-Vaxxer

Came home tonight as they are finally opening the Vaccine up to those above 30+ tomorrow. She told me she's not getting it because of all the blood clots and they haven't tested it properly.

Guess what I told her

She won't be living under my roof for very much longer.

She has a point. Those microchips in the vaccines will mess you up! That must be why Melinda is divorcing Bill.

Adam who is autistic had his first shot of Moderna same time as mine. We have had zero side effects. The reason I mention him being autistic is that he was verbal, perfectly fine until he had his vaccines. Do I think that caused it? Don't know, never will. But, I do know how sick we were when we had Covid. Deathly sick. So a brainier for us.

You can try countering with what if she was guaranteed to get either Pfizer or Moderna where there is no blood clot issue? Or is she truly anti-vax like Payne is alluding?

Even my brother told her last night that because she works in the hospitality market that they can refuse to bring her back ( they both work in the Casino industry ).

She was offered Pfizer at the local pharmacy here but she turned it down.

So you're literally throwing her out of your house because she won't get vaccinated for something that kills like half a percent of people that get it?

Do you have at risk people living in the household like the elderly or immune compromised? Otherwise, it's your house, but seems a little extreme to me.

I think she's being ridiculous for refusing a phizer vax...that said, I've had situations where I've had to force a family member out.

It didn't feel good though, and I certainly wouldn't brag about it.

Experts Say Earning Trust Of Vaccine Skeptics Will Be Key To Jabbing Them When They’re Not Looking (theonion.com)

NEW YORK—Explaining that building public confidence had never been more crucial, experts from Columbia University told reporters Wednesday that earning the trust of vaccine skeptics would be key to jabbing them when they’re not looking. “We explain to them the vaccine is safe, show them the science behind it, wait until they’re distracted, then bam—they’re inoculated against the novel coronavirus,” said epidemiologist Paula Dawson, who estimated that there were still as many as 100 million Americans who needed to be lulled into a false sense of security. “Just a quick ‘Hey, look over there!’ and then we hit them with some Pfizer or Moderna. Compliment them, cozy up to them, do whatever you need to do. It’ll be too easy playing these chumps.” At press time, Dawson added that though this might make administering second dose difficult, there was nothing a free snack couldn’t fix.

It's funny how a vaccine and the medical decisions of others can cause family issues.

Actual rates are quite a bit higher, the US is just under 1.8% deathrate and Canada is a bit over 1.9%, the rate of significant symptoms is quite a bit higher, and the rate of long term side effects after even mild cases is about 10%. All told, something like 15-20 in 100 will die, have significant symptoms, or have long term side effects if they get COVID-19.

If she won't get it, she is putting everyone she comes into contact with at risk in a time when the risk is everywhere. Not wanting to get a specific one is one thing - you can still be vaccinated even if the generally unsubstantiated concerns of the vaccine's safety are a gross exaggeration, at least, compared to the measured symptoms of the disease itself.

It's not a good thing to have to do, and there are probably more gentle ways of saying it, but I think putting your foot down and saying it has to be done is the right approach for someone living with you unless they are at significant risk of side effects from the vaccine or literally stay indoors all the time with no interaction with the outside.

It's not really that funny when we are dealing with a global pandemic and every person must do their part to curb the virus transmission.

Based on cdc data from last September, in my age group the probability of death from covid 19 is 200 out of 1 million. For the next age bracket, the probability is 5000 out of 1 million. It's not something I'm real worried about, though my concern does go up for people who are in seriously at risk groups.

Regardless it looks like he has the excuse he needs to boot them out of the house lol

When conspiracy theories and mistrust being the norm, it's common for people to have doubts about nearly everything.

There are a couple people who refuses to get vaccinated at this time. Variants of COVID-19 are becoming more deadly, and clinical trials are hardly thorough enough to guarantee it being highly affective against different strings of the virus (efficacy rates are not 100% reliable and dependent on region).

Sure it's preferable in the world where COVID is making everyone's life miserable, but the long-term affects of vaccines are anyone's guess right now.

Having said that, there are reasons why I already took my Pfizer shots. For one, if people are more cooperative and take their vaccines, life will undoubtedly "get back to normal" sooner.

What I really have a problem against? Anti-maskers and fools who take off their masks on the street whenever they feel like it. But I guess that's another topic altogether.

Since when has "But did you die?" ever been a valid defense? There's a lot more to it than simply mortality rate.

You are either bad at math, or you are really bad at math. If the vaccine was killing half a percent of those who had taken it, more than half a million additional people would have died by now just in US alone. Only a few hundred such known cases are in US, meanwhile Covid-19 was killing 2000-3000 people every day for months in US, and still kills about 1000 people in three days, now that the rates are down.

The vaccine related deaths have lower percentages than you dying while walking on the street and getting hit by a car.

What makes this set of vaccines any different than any other vaccine in the world?

They all do the same thing, make your body produce antibodies to fight diseases. Especially ones that could kill you before your body is ready to fight it off.

And they all have side effects of some kind, some serious, most nothing.

Long term side effects? Once the vaccine produces the anti-bodies, it's gone. Anti-bodies in your system occur naturally. They'll be there for sure if you get the virus. Plus they get formed in the hard and violent way. So why not worry about that instead?

On the street? You're outside. I don't wear a mask outside either, it's stupid.
