Default audigy2 nx questions

my wife knew i was going to upgrade my onboard audio to something nice for doom3's audio goodeness, so i had mentioned the audigy2 zs and when out shopping she bought me an audigy2 nx (external usb) for £50.
the price is good and i have installed it and the sound difference between this and the onboard is stunning.
so the question is , is there anything to loose/gain from the usb sound card? , i now have easy access to all the inputs and a nice remote but would the internal card offer me anything more ?.
thanks

It depends on what you're doing w/ it. The NX has comparable sound quality to the ZS so it's great for general listening. Especially for laptops which usually can't upgrade their sound. However, USB 2.0 external sound devices almost always have very high CPU usage:

Most of the USB-based sound solutions aren't exactly a gamer's best friend. You'll lose some framerates from using a USB sound card over an internal one. Whether that loss of framerate is significant only you can decide. But if you're a "gamer" it's usually best to stay away from external sound solutions. Otherwise, the external will do just as well if that's not a concern.

thanks for the link, i have been playing around with it and i think i will keep it for a bit, i assume it will be far better perf wise than the onboard ac97 i was using and as i mentioned the sound is very nice.
cheers
