I think this chip will be on my next soundcard

Not worth it to upgrade from my A1 to an A2 ZS, but maybe from an A1 to a X-FI

Since I haven't quite followed X-Fi, will it be PCI-e or PCI only?

PCI initially, PCI-e to follow.

I highly doubt any X-fi cards will be available next month. I'd believe September or October availabiity, though.

It's supposed to be a completely new card, so no Audigy. Supposed to be revolutionnary and get about 20% better performances in-games...

does it have the same crappy DACs as the Audigy? If Creative uses the DACs from the EMU line this will be a great card. Probably not gonna happen.

oh and any news on whether or not it resamples? This may be the dealbreaker...

Over standard onboard sound. Something add-on sound cards can already do.

Already sprang for an Audigy 4, so I currently have no desire for an X-Fi. (The ad copy bothers the heck out of me, too, for some reason...)

The DACs on the entire A2 line are already very good.

The A4 and the A2 Value 7.1 have an option for bit-perfect SPDIF output.

When I added in my SB Live 24-bit card, it gave me a 16% increase in performance. That 20% they quoted is unimpressive.

It does, but Creative spent something like half of the chip's 50 million transistors on that. It's supposed to be inaudible.

Will they have different flavours of it as well, on type for gamer, musician, home theatre e.t.c. Like Audigy has Platinum, Platinum Ex e.t.c.

If you really want an Audigy2 now, just nab up an Audigy2 Value OEM. They are fairly inexpensive and would make a good hold over till Xi-Fi if you really wanted somthing now

neo, i don't think that is possible. the difference with sound turned off in games vs the audigy 2zs is generally not even close to 20 percent (usually 5-10 percent more fps if even that) so i would doubt any new sound card could improve things past the no sound option.

that being said as newer games come out with 64/128/256/512 etc simultaneous sounds the a2zs may suffer and the real processing power of the xifi may show.

truthfully, i can't wait for this card. finally creative has gone against the grain and released a card not based on the same old live chip. (live and audigy series use basically the same chip with just a few modifications. the xifi is a brand new chip.) i just hope they keep the same pinouts for the aud 2zs live drives so i don't have to pony up for a whole new platinum sound card. (hey, i can hope)

no guarantee. they have done a similar countdown more than once over the past few months.(yes using the same counter on that exact same page) all we know is that more information on the chip will be available in 6 days. (usually the info turns out to be useless crap)

Well, it's been updated again, this time with the EAX 5 features. Looks like they're finally including some Sensaura and Aureal tech (no wavetracing, though), but I think the feature list is quite underwhelming.

Next update is 12 days from now, and now that they've listed the main feature maybe it's time for release?

I just want my wavetracing back, damn it! Killing off Aureal was the biggest crime in PC history, and I can't even begin to fathom how incredibly well A3D 6.0 would be sounding today.

Creative sucks
Well they suck because of their drivers. Otherwise, their hardware is pretty good for gaming, well the best IMO. But for audiophile, there are better companies such as M-Audio, Terratec, etc.

EAX 5? Men that seems pretty good
