![]() More info here, and some official press shots: http://www.theverge.com/2013/1/7/384...-gaming-system Apparently you'll be able to stream your PC games on it, provided you have a Geforce card. |

![]() So not garbage lol (not sure what you were thinking when you wrote that). This thing can be so many things if done right. A hand held htpc, portable game unit, a mini tablet, and so forth. Only problem is the form factor needs work. Way too clunky and screen too small.

I was watching the event on twitch and he said that a lot of people carry around a controller with their android devices to play games... I know zero people who do that... and I know some pretty nerdy fckin people(lots of android fanboys too). If this thing is more than 150 max than its not going to sell. Im not wowed at all by it. |

![]() Depending on how powerful tegra 4 actually is this device in the right form factor can replace a lot of things. Imagine now this is a 7inch tablet and we give it the following. #1 detachable gaming controller. I am thinking half on left half on right #2 a wireless tv doc (so it can act as the htpc and remote for htpc) #3 a keyboard case dock #4 3g support with voice with an easy access sim slot. It could potentially replace a lot of your tech items.

and to be honest i've only turned it on twice... once to make sure it was working and once more to play a game i might use it more if there were more decent games and i had a better phone (the games i have the benefit from a gamepad just barely manage to run on my phone and absolutely destroy my battery life)

![]() Not much improvement on the GPU front in the new Tegra, sadly. Still separate vertex/pixel shaders, low precision pixel processing... Well, I guess those five A15 cores were more important. PowerVR should crush it.

![]() So no one sees the potential in this? This would be a device to rival the PS vita and the 3DS. Things is has over a vita or 3DS: Real controls with dual analog sticks A real web browser Support for movies, music, games, streaming audio like Pandora, slacker, Netflix. No funky discs or cartridges to mess with Ability to stream any game from your steam library to the device via your network Better battery life I would agree looks wise it isn't the most elegant device. The main thing is you held one whether or not it would feel correct in the hand. There is a 5" screen sitting on top of the controller so I'm sure they had to move stuff around internally to get it to balance correctly. The biggest advantage this device has over using a tablet, a phone, or the vita is the screen is separate from the controls. You don't have to hold your hands at a weird angle so you can see the screen.

![]() I thought Xperia Play is bulky, this is just....but well it might be on the same size as any portable gaming device like PS Vita. I did watch it live few hours ago on twitch. It can control gaming PC (with nvidia chips no less) and play games on it. I guess all the console ports do have it uses now, as it can be played on this with no problems. I heard it can run 4K display too.

You see, this is where the openness of Android is a good thing, because you can actually get games on this device that you can't get on iOS. I will consider buying one of these based on price because of one thing, EMULATORS! I already play NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, and PSX on my Nexus 7 using a PS3 controller wirelessly. If the price is right on this, I'd get one. My gut tells me they will try to get $150-250 for this thing retail, so I don't know if I will be getting one.

No one was debating the openness of android. But since you are mentioning emulators, they are there on iOS once jailbroken. So is the ability to connect a third party controller. So ![]() Price will definitely be a huge factor and I dont think the price will be low enough to make people want to go out and get one. The highest I would pay for this is 100 bucks. Is that cheap? Yup. It will definitely not be that price but I dont think its worth more than that personally. |

which I agree with. I was adding to your statement that the openness of Android will open up many more possibilities beyond what Nvidia is planning. Also, jailbreaking to install emulators versus just sideloading isn't really a fair comparison imo, not to mention the quality of Android emulators is pretty amazing. I haven't used an iOS emulator on my iPod Touch 4G in a long time, but perhaps they have improved since then. ![]() Quote:

Sold out on the little plastic clip doesnt tell us anything really. Maybe they only had a run of 500? As for software, I didnt mean software as in emulators. I meant the software that Nvidia brings with its shield.. whatever they will use to connect to your PC to stream games(they had a name for the software in the stream I cant remember what it was exactly, Maybe NVidia Grid to match the servers) That is pretty much the only difference between this and smartphones in the future that will use Tegra4. Not going to get into the whole android-iOS thing in this thread, emulators are pretty much on par. As for the price, I wonder where they are going to start it at. A lot of smart phones come with subsidization to keep the price low at first purchase... this wont. I think it will at least start at 200 bucks easy. For the people who did not watch the stream though when they were playing AC3 through the cloud on a wired connection the lag was ridiculously bad. It would take maybe 1-2 seconds for it to respond. I dont think nvidia can do anything better than what anyone else can do in terms of cloud gaming. I see the shield as a PC version of Sonys Remote play with the Vita. |
