Default Games Finished March 2020

Thought about doing this series to kind of assist people and motivate them to finish their backlogs. As many have seen, I have completed a lot of games last year and still managed to do my hobbies, take care of family, career going strong and travel a lot.

Not every month someone will be finishing a lot, as there are months where a person just can't finish anything. Then you got that streak going in another month.

Also, if you plan to replay the game, it is fine but don't repeat it at a later month as first completion is what counts.

Another thing is the criteria of what is considered completed in unclear games such as team based multiplayer games; I would say set a target for that. E.g. I considered Overwatch completed when I reached level 100. Or when I finished story mode (which was a long movie sequence) in Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator. You decide what you consider is completed as long as it is reasonable to a certain extend and correlate-able to a single player experience.

DLC completed at a separate time from the main game and has enough content (+1 hour) can be counted as a separate completion.

Console completions can be accepted as long as the main focus is still PC overall.

Completed Games:
572-Metro Exodus: Sam's Story DLC
573-Doom Eternal
574-Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary
575-Doom 64
576-Granblue Fantasy: Versus

March was a bit busier gaming wise but mostly shorter stuff:

572-Metro Exodus: Sam's Story DLC: This was the last DLC and feels like a mini version of the main game. It isn't great but not bad either. More of the same and less directed than the first DLC. I generally enjoyed it.

573-Doom Eternal: Best game of this year so far by far. Also, better than Doom 2016 in almost every way except maybe it leans a bit too much on the arcady side. Maybe it is better or just a different flavor. All in all, I enjoyed it none stop.

574-Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary: This still holds up very well despite the age.

575-Doom 64: First time I played this and it isn't better than the Originals. Still, enjoyed it and also the Lost Levels were actually well made.

576-Granblue Fantasy: Versus: A solid fight game that has the easiest barrier to entry. Not too many mechanics but very solid. Still enjoyable with the best anime graphics until Guilty Gear Strive comes out. Has a better single player experience than DBFZ. Overall, I am loving it as I can do well vs others without the need to practice too much.

ZERO. Been boning MW and started Doom Eternal and am on level 6 on that puppy. Also started a few games like Ori and the gay forest and some other crap like Surge 2 but didn't hold my attention.

Two for me:

* Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Was cool, but not as cool as Origins. Not because it's essentially the same game but in Greece, but because of issues with voice acting, lame quests, strange gameplay choices, a story line that doesn't really pick up, and overpowered enemies at your gates every two seconds if you're not careful.

* Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. Still awesome. Finished it on Legendary, then did the speedruns on Easy for the achievements. So technically I finished it twice, but let's count just the one completion. I am so glad that Halo is finally easily accessible on PC!

Strangely enough, despite the quarantine I don't really have much planned for April. Toying around with VR and some more Rocket League. Let's see if I pick up anything from the bucket list of games to play.

Played a bunch of very short indie or experimental titles which I'll not count (Morticians Tale, The Supper, 36 Apples, How to Cope With Loneliness And Boredom, There is No Game and Macdows 95).

Also spent a fair deal of time with IL2 BOS and Euro/American Truck Sim.

Actual completes I'm saying eleven; Moss, Where the Water Tastes Like Wine, AC Unity, Rush, Far Lone Sails, Unheard, Gorn, Hypergate, The Inner World, Childrens of Zodiarcs and HL Alyx.

I expect many of us will be finishing a lot over the next couple of months. Things are very much up in the air but I'm on furlough 'til the end of May so there isn't much else to do.

2 games

Finished Far Cry Primal and Far Cry 5.

I actually enjoyed both of them quite a bit. I thought I would dislike FC5 quite a bit more based on what everyone else was saying, but it was entertaining enough. Not as good as some of the other games though.

Now playing Resident Evil 2, and playing Little Nightmares on the side a bit when I just want a quick gaming fix. I think I'll do Prey or Quantum Break next.

Phoning Home - Interesting game that reminded me of Subnautica at first and had good dialogue sequences. Interesting abilities, intriguing story, decent graphics, decent sound. The worst thing about it is the world is too big with nothing in it, often with no direction to go except (for example) a waypoint at the top of a mountain of which there are 49 dead ends and 1 real path. Oh and by the way you have a companion that follows you around and missions won't trigger unless he is close. You have a jetpack, he doesn't. Potential 9/10, true 6/10.

Project Warlock - Retro FPS that's mostly forgettable. Cool weapons, cool bosses. Only a few levels had vertical movement and I'm not sure why.

12 this month !

Well with being stuck at home I got a lot of work done .... lol Who am I kidding. Some, but not a lot. So I got some gaming in.

01: Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit ... I kept expecting Wallace and Gromit to show up. Not a bad story and a tie in to Life is Strange.

02: The Cat and the Coup - 4/4 if you're on LSD. 1/4 if your not.

03: The Deer - Deer God No.

04: The Land of Lamia - I thought this would suck and it was actually fun.

05: The Moon Silver - "elements of horror" That sir is a lie.

06: The Old Tree - Free puzzle game ... and I got what I paid for.

07/08: Puzzle Agent 1 & 2 - I was in a puzzle mood for a week. These ended that mood.

09: Stranded - Meh point n click

10: The Way of Life (Free Edition) - A WTF is this Sh*t adventure / story / walking simulator. Probably more EA than finished, but not actually bad in a WTF way.

11/12: You Have 10 Seconds 1 & 2 - A fairly standard low end platformer.

Next month ... more crap.

6 games.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light: I only played the demo when the game was released, decided to give the game a shot. I liked it, it is a fun game.
Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris: The follow up is... weird? I was expecting more of the same game, but it felt a bit different. The graphics are improved, the gameplay is improved, but it was not the same experience I had with the first game.
Shank: Confusing controls.
Shank 2: Confusing controls 2, the return. Mark of the Ninja is so much better.
Superbrothers: Sword & Sorcery EP: what a weird game. Pixaleted graphics, the music is nice, somehow it matches the atmosphere. I like that as the game plot progresses your character becomes weaker, not that it matters much for the gameplay itself (very simple combat), but it just matches with the narrative built for the game. I think most will drop the game because of the graphics though.
The Witness: I like puzzle games, this one didn't disappoint. Very simple concept with the panel puzzles that can become quite difficult to solve, specially if you are so tired that you end up falling asleep on the keyboard xD (ouch my mouth).

I really liked both of those games. The first one was better, though. Their attempt to work in four player coop in the second one came out really weird.

None for me. Nearly all my computer gaming time is dedicated to playing games with my son. Due to what is going on in the world, my son doesn't get to play with his friends anymore and he is the only child, so I am filling in that hole in his life at this time. We are playing SWTOR together, which is a lot of fun to play with my son.

Though when we complete the story line of the characters we are playing, I am going to consider that as a game completion.
