the 6700/XT is looking like the darling of this generation. A $400 dollar card that is probably going to beat the 3070 at 1440p and below.

Digital Foundry review:

6800XT falls behind a 3080 most of the time at 4k and falls even further with ray traced games, though this is well known by now. What they did state was interesting was that a 6800/6800XT won't fare well future wise simply due to ray tracing being implemented in numerous key upcoming games. A 3070 winds up beating a 6800XT even in 1440p when ray tracing is enabled most of the time.

What they also confirmed was that AMD's "solution" to DLSS isn't really a solution at all. It's not AI based and is just a temporal upscaler, meaning it will not even compete with DLSS 2.0 which offers better than native quality simply due to how it works. No temporal upscaler can offer the same image quality that machine learning upscalers offer due to the fact AI algorithms have access to 64k samples while temporal upscalers are just that.

This is different than what MS is pursuing which does actually involve AI training much like DLSS, but this is not what AMD is bringing.

It was a vanilla 2080, not Ti, and at 4k only. The game with largest uplift was Quake2 RTX which is pure ray tracing, not hybrid rendering. Their numbers are legit.

Digital Foundry are excellent, though their specialty is not hardware - their analysis of graphical techniques, IQ and fidelity is second to none.

They're showing you exact framerates, what settings, what game, etc...

It's in line with other reviews. I mean, if you don't want to believe, more power to you. Let me know how that Cyberpunk game works out for you at lower resolutions, lower settings, etc..

and AMD should drop a new driver with the 6900 xt and one or two more before RT is in 2077 and maybe 10 drivers before i can get a 6900 xt or a 3080 ti 7nm

Agreed but I did warn him. ATM 6800 availability is terrible (wink wink back on topic) and I can't see it getting better for maybe 3 to 6 months. With all this lack of availability why are they launching the 6900XT? They are basically higher binned 6800's which are not available so what kind of stock will there be? What is really going on at AMD at the moment. They seem to be absolutely clueless. The mind boggles at their incompetence

Sad really.

AS HU said it might be Feb/March before things and prices normailse but let's wait and see. At the end of the day if doesn't improve soon I'll just sit out this gen all together.

i think about 2 months at most like the end of January 2021 after the holidays and shipping frees up a lot

they are now and NV would kill to have them now
there would not be a DirectX Raytracing if they did it would all be RTX .

and AMD would have been gone years ago before the Ryzen CPU's

now those consoles use AMD Navi GPU's and that will cross over

They've done some tests that show amd RT is 80% of ampere so not that slow which tells us its lacking optmization ingame or driver needs update. The launch driver was pretty stable tho so it looks like they went for that instead of perf which makes sense as the early drivers for navi 10 were pretty bad.

both will get better

mostly optimizations in game have all been for NV cards only in every game out till now
and i see that AMD should benefit from full ms dxr optimizations in game

I cant find any info confirming that. Basically no one knows what amds answer to dlss will be. And knowing both sony and ms are working on ai ml tech itd be amazing for amd to ignore it.
