It doesn't matter that they're defective per se. Point was, 5800x and 5950x are the only 2 sku's with full cores and cache in each CCX (IE- complete). They should have the least latency. If for example, a game uses cores from different CCX's on the 5900x, there might be a penalty.

3300x for example, was often faster than 3900x for gaming.

So what board and processor are you gays going to try to buy?
I need to know which mfg I should use for the board. I hate Gigabyte and MSI so that really leaves me with ASUS only.

Either the 5800x or 5900x. I'm leaning slight towards the 5900x. Asus 570x hero(non-wifi) for mobo. I didn't look at other vendors yet. I don't like Gigabyte and MSI is a maybe.

The ASROCK Taichi is 10% off on the egg. However, very hesitant to purchase anything from the egg as once you are out of their 30 day window, you are SOL.

The X570 Taichi? Have it, don't enjoy the fan at all. Whiny litle sucker. The MSI X570 Creation has been a completely different experience.

That's a 500 boner board! Anything more reasonable in the $200-250 mark? It's not like a Ryzen can overclock.

With the ambient temps in your room I wouldn't expect much. Ryzen runs hot .. very little surface area to dissipate heat and a lot of very close cores ..

Fair enough, that is why my first attempt is to delid the 8086K and run it at 5 Gs until it dies. By that time hopefully Ryzen will be available.

What if some chips are 8 ccx plus 4ccx on the second die?

I was wondering the same thing. Doesn't seem likely though.

5600x and 5900x with 6 core ccx's.
5800x and 5950x with 8 core ccx's.

The latter of each with higher bins.

Ryzen 9 3900X is where things start to get interesting. With the removal of 4 cores to make for the total coming down to 12 Cores we see a single core disabled from each of the CCXs on both Zen 2 chiplets. This would be why you see no announcement of a 14 core CPU in the Ryzen 3000 Series family and don't expect to see one in the future either.

i will have to see reviews but if i upgrade my 3800x i may go to a 5950x as i think the 5000's are about the same

Been contemplating which chipset board to get and think the B550 is good enough for me. I will only ever use a single graphics card and a single PCI e 4.0 storage which a B550 offers. Comparatively for the pricing and features the board is also 100-150 bucks cheaper. Damn it seems you lose 8 PCIe lanes the minute you install 2 NVMe drives. Wtf is this garbage?

I think I'm just going to wait a few months and see if a hacked BIOS comes out for my CH6 Hero. The difference between X370 and X470 is small enough that it's not inconceivable that someone will back port the AGESA. CH6 was a fairly popular X370 board so if it happens there's a good chance it will happen for it.

If a hacked BIOS does come out I'd consider upgrading to a 5900X. Otherwise I may wait until the mid to late next year if a friend or family member needs a new computer to offload my current parts to. I don't really need to upgrade at all so it would more be "just for the hell of it", therefore I'm not in a big rush.

Hardware Unboxed just tested SSD game loading performance and with current games PCI 4.0 really doesn't do much of anything.

Bottom line, you'll probably be on a new board and CPU (if not another one beyond it) by the time games are updated to take advantage of faster storage, so if I were you I just wouldn't worry about it.

I don't care about the PCI e 4.0 storage. I do care about graphics running at PCI e 16 X which apparently doesn't happen when you connect the second NVMe. I need a board with at least 2 NVMe drives and full 16X PCI e so it will have to be a X570 w/ Ryzen 5900X.

Again this build is on hold till January anyways. Not paying scalper pricing on X570 boards and Ryzen 5900X CPUs.

Wheres a reliable place to find such a bios tho? Kinda holding out some hope for one for the K7...

Do really enjoy the 10GBit NIC on the Creation. There's alot to like on that thing. It's expensive, more than X570 Taichi and 10G NIC combined, but man... I must have spent months trying to get the Taichi stable on 3000. I'm not talking benchmark and game stable, but ESXi and ZFS stable. Testpool generated read/write errors every now and then that got corrected, strange reboot once a week. A vnic dropped out. The small silent stuff. . The Creation ...just worked with same CPU and RAM.

Of course the Taichi has been stable since Christmas now still at 3000 I think after nailing the settings down, and I'm not touching that thing again, but it took alot of work to get there. Windows, benchmarks, memtest86 was all fine. It was ESXi and ZFS that proved difficult.

Having two Creations that just worked with no issues made me think "yeah, either I got real unlucky with my Taichi, or I just paid to avoid months of more testing". The open ended PCIe slots on the Taichi is nice, just have to detach the whole cooling plate

where PCIE 4.0 is going to be important is going to be with direct IO given that you will have to load the data into the gpu to be decompressed.

My x570 board came with 2 nvme slots. Installed gen 4 nvme drives on both. I also used the 2nd pciex16 slot for this $15 card which let me install an older gen3 nvme. So 3 nvme drives running and the video card performance hasn't been impacted. Of course this is a gtx 1070. Will see once I can finally nab a new card.

Just got my Asus Tuf Gaming B550-Pro and 3200Mhz mem, im ready! Scared my c1 wouldn't clear the heat sinks for the VRMs. It cleared!

The bios is very weird, but got it to work with D.O.C.P speeds for my memory. Might mess with it later. I miss phoenix bios

I don't have any particular sources, but I think something might end up being posted over at Overclock.net. I have no idea if it's going to happen or not, just going to wait and see.
