i know, it was a bit over the top (for my taste) in bpm. But as usual, that's bound to be different for everyone. I enjoyed Metal Hellsinger a lot more.

thats fair. its certainly niche in a regard, and hellsinger bridges that gap. i do wish bpm was a little more duochrome and not monochrome too, i think its one of the things that holds it back.

that being said, just checked and 7200 reviews at 93% is damn good!

fiddeling around with Veloren, a kinda successor to Cube World. It's fun in a good old Cube World way. I'll have to check out the mp-part of it.

https://veloren.net/

Quote:
Veloren is a multiplayer voxel RPG written in Rust. It is inspired by games such as Cube World, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Dwarf Fortress and Minecraft.

Veloren is fully open-source, licensed under GPL 3. It uses original graphics, musics and other assets created by its community. Being contributor-driven, its development community and user community is one and the same: developers, players, artists and musicians come together to develop the game.

Development of Veloren started in mid-2018. There are around 20 active developers working on the game, with another 20 artists, writers, designers, and composers contributing as well. Over 150 people have contributed to the project. Veloren currently has builds for Windows, Linux, and MacOS.

cube world was great, wish it had been completed properly. Seems some weird flux of reviews on steam lately, anyone know why?

Will definitely check veloren out if its anything like cube world.

played a few round of Ballads of Hongye (Demo). Wow, a drop dead gorgeous looking survival/building game. Beautiful, yery complex with a fitting soundtrack.

Playng Starship Troopers - Terran Command and finding it extremely boring. Just lots of bland missions and samey objectives. Pathfinding is horrible. Just not well designed in some aspects (e.g. bugs can "capture" your bases and if your forces die you can just call a new lot in 95% of the time so who cares). Has some annoying micromanagement aspects as well. Looks okay, runs okay, has a few bugs tho.

Had my first foray into the Diablo series. Bought Diablo 3 Eternal Collection for my Xbox Series X (on sale currently for $20). I've been really enjoying it so far. It scratches the hack and slash itch pretty well.

Finished Starship Troopers: Terran Command. The back half was more interesting than the first half. Just more attention required. Some great defensive missions too. Of course more grind and micromanagement too. Overall it's a good adaptation but not a good RTS game imo. 6/10

How do you mean finished? It comes out with new content like every other week.

Also, checkout nomad survivors, and 20 minutes till dawn.

The Messenger

It's basically a modern Ninja Gaiden (the NES version, not the new games). You play a ninja called a messenger and pretty much move exactly like in Ninja Gaiden, with wall climbing, a simple sword slash and a ninja star.

I liked it. It's fairly short. About 15 hours of gameplay. Fun side-scrolling platformer.

The game has a lot of filler dialogue. Too much, but a lot is optional. They go for a lot of meta jokes and humour. The writing itself is fine, and got the occasional smirk out of me. But for a basic platformer with a minimal story, it felt like it was interrupted a lot with the dialogue. Once you get past about the halfway point of the game, there is a lot less dialogue and it feels paced a bit better.

There could have been more variety in the enemies. It feels like you're up against the same 5 or 6 enemies throughout the game. The game has some pits and spike traps. But instead of using the NES lives and continues system, there are save points and all it costs you is gems that are easy to collect. So there isn't a lot of punishment for dying. So the game is far from the infuriatingly difficulty level of the Ninja Gaiden games. You fall into a pit, and you're back to where you were in 10 seconds.

There is an unlock system for skills. You pretty much need most of the upgrades. And you can buy them fairly early. The shop system seemed kind of pointless.

The game's story has a time travel aspect. And they had a clever design where the parts of the game in the past have 8-bit NES style graphics and the parts in the future use 16-bit SNES style graphics. Once you get to the part where the graphics change, the game is a bit more enjoyable. The levels can be traveled through non-linearly and you can explore more feely. The game is more enjoyable from that point on, but also seems easier too.

I think it's less than $10 on Steam right now.

I thought the Messenger was fantastic. One of the better retro inspired indie games I've played. I highly recommended.

Played some of that 20 minutes till dawn, it's neat, but it needs way more work done to it than vampire survivors.

Right now it seems that the way to succeed is to turn it into VS where you let the skills do all of the heavy lifting, the part where you fire your weapon basically does not matter.

I give it 5/10 Crimsonlands.

yeah, it certainly feels the least content wise or balanced of these kinds of game. Hopefully it will keep getting updates, as it being full release could mean it wont. As for weapons, i find the right combinations of runes can really make a huge difference. Especially with the bats or the crossbow.

EDIT: for example, in the sword tree, taking alacrity, close combat, glass cannon and cadence makes a huge difference.

Played some Fall Guys. Found it pretty boring. You do really well and have to wait AGES. The random games suck too, like the doors or the tiles.

played a few hours of Dinkum, not bad, looks and feels very polished for an EA-game. It does have some small bugs, but nothing to write home about.

Just finished Prey (2017).

Other than Skyrim which I found a bit boring and stopped playing, I have now finished every game in my Steam library (excluding a few DLCs which I'm not really interested in and some remasters/enhanced editions of games I've already completed).

So, +/- 70 hours in, level +/- 70 character, just entered Leyndell.

I really, really don't like difficult, bleak games. But I *will* see it through damnit.

I wrestle with that at times too when playing dark fantasy Souls-like style games that are challenging.

But there's no other games that give such satisfaction from accomplishing its goals. Very addicting.

Salt and Sacrifice is breaking that addiction down for me. I still jump in a bit every day. It’s the hardest game I’ve ever played. I’m in the next to final area now, but man…

Example: There are two types of bosses. Level bosses (very few) and mages. Level bosses are where you find them and never leave that arena. Mages you chase all over the map before the final showdown.

Here’s the rub. Killing a mage doesn’t remove it from the game. Many times, I’ve engaged a mage, only to have another mage - sometimes one I haven’t fought yet - show up and join the fight.

So you can fight multiple mages, the enemies that spawn in when they do, plus the regular level enemies. And they all fight each other while you try to survive.

It is literal chaos. Insanity, but I haven’t been able to put it down

Haven't seen it but unless you have some sort of crowd control way of dealing with that it just sounds like poor design to me.
