Controlling your squad

OK, how's this meant to work?

I press 'C' and the guy says something like 'good idea, I'll stay right here' and then I run off and he's following me! In some parts your squad just gets in the way and I can't get them to stay where they are told.

Off topic of this, near the end of Entanglement I was being followed by Alyx and ...... Alyx! There were 2 of em! Thought it was part of the game to start with but must have been a bug. Should have took a screenshot of it I guess.

i think they nixed the squad controll before they released it.
it workd perfectly in the beta

they are idiots, if u tell them stay here and u walk 10 feet they wil say hey lets follow freeman and bam they walk into the laser beams

after a set time they follow you - but the times too short, which means they're virtually suicidal.

They're really getting on my nerves when inside buildings, it takes 20 seconds to get thru a doorway..... ' oh sorry, excuse me, let me get outta your way' etc. I just want them to sit tight in one room out of the way.

if you point your gun then press c once they will go to that position, but indeed it is annoying and you can't blow em away like the original.

That comic is spot on... heh.. I found myself shouting at my monitor several times... "Get the *bleep* out of the way!"

I personally would have rather had the ant lions with me instead of the squad mates on most levels... At least they showed a little more intelligence, and if you told them to stay put, they usually did.

I thought the idea was you showed them where to go by pressing 'c' and then you press 'c' twice to recall them. Has anybody had any luck with this or is it a bug/poor programming?

No. You can tell them to go wait at the other end of the map, but ten seconds later they'll be running back. Frankly, in most cases they're a liability rather than a benefit.

I'm sure there were some squad command keys on the key options list when I first installed the game, but they're not there anymore. Maybe it didn't work and Valve removed it.

You should be able to dump them then. The only one that is of any use is the medic.

Yes thats how I found it. C once for them to move where you aim and C+C For them to comeback.

I found those damn bugs were much worse and in my way lots more often than the human AI friendlies.

Both aren't that great but the bugs were the worst.

Good ideas bad implementation.

C+C works, but its not neccessary cuz after u tell them to stay somewhere they come running to you like idiots 10 seconds after.
u only press C+C if u want them to follow you sooner than 10 seconds.
